On the afternoon of October 6th, authorities, in coordination with relevant units, dealt with the scene of a construction machinery collapse that occurred at the Xuyen Tam canal project.

According to initial information, at approximately 4:15 PM on the same day, a workplace safety incident occurred in the T1 section (kilometer marker 0+350, Bui Huu Nghia Street, Gia Dinh Ward), part of package XL-01 of the project to dredge, improve the environment, and build infrastructure for the Xuyen Tam canal (section from the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to the Vam Thuat river).

At that time, a concrete mix design (CDM) machine, while being brought onto the construction site and being erected, suddenly collapsed towards Bui Huu Nghia street, with the front part of the equipment falling and blocking the alleyway.

The initial cause has been identified as a broken axle on the equipment, leading to its collapse. Fortunately, the incident has not initially resulted in any injuries or property damage to residents in the surrounding area, only causing a temporary disruption to traffic on the road.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the construction unit and the supervisory consultant coordinated with local authorities to set up barricades, reroute traffic, and mobilize personnel and equipment to rectify the situation and tow the construction machinery back to the construction site.

Reportedly, this is one of eight CDM drilling rigs recently added by the consortium of contractors to accelerate the construction progress. This equipment is currently in the assembly phase.

The investor stated that they will hold a serious review meeting to learn from this experience and prevent similar incidents from happening again throughout the project.
