The total area planted with rice for the whole year is estimated at over 87.3 thousand hectares, a decrease of 0.3%. The winter-spring crop achieved a yield of 63.6 quintals/hectare, an increase of 3.5%, and a production of 278.5 thousand tons, an increase of 3.1%. The summer crop's yield is estimated at 54.1 quintals/hectare, a decrease of 2.2%, and a production of 235.3 thousand tons, a decrease of 2.4%, due to the impact of drought, salinity intrusion, and southerly winds during the rice flowering period.
Other annual crops recorded many positive results. Corn production reached nearly 64,000 tons, an increase of 3.9%; peanuts nearly 25,000 tons, an increase of 11.7%; vegetables 344,000 tons, an increase of 3%; and beans over 10,000 tons, an increase of 3.5%. Sugarcane production, however, decreased by 10.8%, to approximately 18,200 tons.
For perennial crops, the planted area reached over 24,400 hectares by September 20th, an increase of 0.7%. Fruit production is estimated at nearly 103,000 tons, an increase of 4.6%; including nearly 63,700 tons of bananas, 7,400 tons of jackfruit, and nearly 6,000 tons of pomelo. Rubber production reached 5,800 tons, an increase of 4.5%; and pepper production reached 339 tons, an increase of 8%.
The pest situation on crops is basically under control. The city continues to proactively regulate water resources, inspect fields, provide guidance on pest and disease control, and restructure crop patterns towards increasing production value and adapting to weather and water conditions.
