The dog, purchased from an unknown source and kept for two months, showed signs of suspected rabies and subsequently bit one person. Four people were exposed, and all received preventive treatment according to the Ministry of Health 's guidelines. Cumulatively in 2026, nine rabies outbreaks in dogs have been recorded in Doai Phuong, Ha Bang, Hoa Lac, Thach That, Kieu Phu, and Yen Xuan districts; all exposed individuals have received preventive treatment. The Hanoi CDC predicts that more rabies outbreaks in animals may be recorded in the future, and people may contract the disease if they do not proactively seek preventive treatment after being bitten by dogs or cats.

Five COVID-19 cases were reported in four wards/communes; the cumulative number of cases recorded in 2026 to date is 1,660 across 122 wards/communes.

This week, the Hanoi CDC, in coordination with relevant units, closely monitored the disease situation in the city to detect cases early, organize containment investigations, and thoroughly handle areas with cases and outbreaks. They monitored the investigation and handling of a rabies outbreak in dogs in Doai Phuong commune on September 30, 2026. They also monitored areas with dengue fever cases and outbreaks in the following wards and communes: Kieu Phu, Ha Dong, Tu Liem, Duong Noi, Chuong My, Thuong Tin, Yen Lang, Hoang Mai, Phuong Liet, Bo De, Tam Hung, Hoa Xa, and Viet Hung.

Next week, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) will monitor dengue fever prevention and control efforts in 20 communes and wards, while also closely tracking areas with cases and outbreaks of hand, foot, and mouth disease. Given the complex nature of the disease outbreaks during the autumn and winter months, local health stations are required to proactively advise on and organize environmental sanitation campaigns, mosquito larva eradication, and chemical spraying during the peak period from September to November. Simultaneously, the health sector will strengthen surveillance to detect cases in the community, healthcare facilities, and the infectious disease management system, especially coordinating with preschools and kindergartens to disinfect and prevent hand, foot, and mouth disease. Hanoi's health sector will also closely cooperate with the veterinary sector to monitor animal diseases to prevent the risk of transmission to humans. At the same time, communication efforts were intensified to provide timely information about diseases such as dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, measles, and Covid-19, thereby advising people to proactively get vaccinated fully and on schedule.
