Reasons for the decrease in traffic volume in September.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Road Administration, traffic volume in September decreased steadily on both expressways and National Highway 1 compared to August. Specifically, there were 13.6 million vehicles on expressways, a decrease of 14.4%; and 6.6 million vehicles on National Highway 1, a decrease of 11.2%.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, August is the peak month at the end of the summer vacation period, and also the beginning of the National Day holiday on September 2nd, so the demand for travel is high. Meanwhile, September is the time when students return to school, so the demand for long-distance travel on the aforementioned routes decreases.
However, considering that toll collection on the highway began in March, traffic volume in September was 3.7% higher than the average of the previous seven months (March to September). The Vietnam Road Administration stated that it will continue to monitor and update the data in the coming period to provide a more comprehensive assessment of traffic volume on the route.
The fee level ensures a balance of interests.
The Vietnam Road Administration stated that the toll rates for the sections of the North-South Expressway in the East, invested by the State, are divided according to vehicle groups and technical standards, based on Decree 130/2024/ND-CP regulating the collection of expressway usage fees. The current fee of 900-1,300 VND/vehicle/km has been calculated to ensure a balance of interests between the State, the people, and businesses.
According to calculations by the management agency, this fee only represents 50%-70% of the benefits users receive when using the highway.
Maintaining a safe distance is recommended.
Regarding regulations on safe distances on roads, the Vietnam Road Administration is implementing the directives of the Ministry of Construction to review and amend standards and regulations within its authority.
The Vietnam Road Administration has directed driving schools to disseminate regulations on speed and safe distance; strengthen training and practice in situations requiring safe distance; and coordinate with the Traffic Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) to enhance awareness among road users regarding compliance with safe distance regulations.
The Vietnam Road Administration advises drivers to strictly comply with regulations on speed and safe distance, and to continue choosing appropriate routes to shorten travel time and ensure traffic safety.
