Dealing with the "spiderweb" of telecommunication cables.

Along with the digital transformation process, the telecommunications infrastructure in the province continues to be invested in and expanded. The province currently has 6 telecommunications enterprises; 100% of communes and wards have fiber optic internet. The percentage of villages, hamlets, and residential areas covered by 4G mobile broadband reaches 98.3%, 5G reaches 37.2%; 98.4% of the population is covered by 4G.

The coordinated forces carried out the task of tidying and bundling telecommunication cables in area 10, To Hieu ward.

The rapid development of telecommunications infrastructure and the increasing number of subscribers have led to a dense network of wires and cables on utility poles. In some areas, damaged or unused cables have not been removed, forming tangled, sagging bundles of wires, sometimes hanging low, detracting from urban aesthetics, affecting traffic safety, power grid operation, and posing potential fire and explosion hazards.

In implementation of Resolution No. 07/2026/NQ-HĐND dated June 22, 2026, of the Provincial People's Council on policies prioritizing investment and mobilizing investment resources for the construction of technical infrastructure systems in residential areas that do not yet meet the conditions for transportation infrastructure and water sources for firefighting, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 216/KH-UBND dated August 10, 2026, to implement it.

Accordingly, To Hieu ward is among the 8 wards prioritized for investment, renovation, and upgrading of roads with a width of 3.5 meters or more but which do not yet ensure sufficient clearance for fire trucks to operate safely.

Workers from Son La Power Company, in coordination with Viettel Son La, are clearing abandoned telecommunication cables to ensure urban aesthetics.

To implement the plan, Son La Power Company, in coordination with telecommunications companies, reviewed the shared power pole system, identified sagging and unused cables, and developed a plan for upgrading the system in To Hieu ward. Son La Power Company acted as the coordinating agency on-site; telecommunications companies deployed personnel and equipment to handle the cable system within their management areas; and local authorities and relevant agencies coordinated to ensure security, order, and traffic safety.

Construction is carried out in sections, clearly identifying the owner before cutting or removing cables; simultaneously, excess cables and materials are collected after construction. The cable system is tensioned and bundled neatly to ensure a minimum clearance height of 4.5 m for vehicles; unused and ownerless cables are inspected and removed.

Simultaneous renovation of streets.

On September 21st, Son La Power Company, in coordination with telecommunications companies and related units, held a ceremony to launch the project of tidying and bundling power and telecommunications cables in To Hieu ward. In the first phase, from September 21st to October 20th, the units mobilized over 80 staff and workers, 5 specialized lifting vehicles, divided into 4 working groups, to tidy nearly 5 km of cable systems on 6 streets, including: Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Luong Bang, 3/2, Mai Dac Ban, Hai Ba Trung, and Giang Lac. To date, the work volume has reached approximately 70% of the plan.

Along the streets, workers are focusing on inspecting and classifying each cable; dismantling damaged and unused cables; tensioning and bundling active cables; and rearranging the power cable system after the meter. Construction is being carried out in stages, minimizing disruption to traffic, daily life, and the use of telecommunication services by residents.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang, Deputy Director of Son La Power Company, said: The company has mobilized staff and workers from its affiliated units to participate in the construction; and assigned safety officers to supervise at the site. Following the implementation in To Hieu ward, the technical team has finalized the plan to continue implementation in other areas.

The units use specialized lifting equipment to assist in sorting and bundling telecommunications cables, ensuring workplace safety and urban aesthetics.

Telecommunications companies also mobilized personnel and equipment to coordinate the handling of cable systems under their management. Son La Telecommunications deployed 8 technical staff and 1 specialized lifting vehicle; Viettel To Hieu Center mobilized more than 10 technical staff and 1 specialized vehicle to handle overhead cable bundles. The construction process complied with technical standards, ensuring transmission lines and minimizing impact on customer services. Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, Deputy Director of Son La Telecommunications, said: The unit focused on reviewing and removing unused cable lines, rearranging existing cables according to standards; and emphasized ensuring labor safety and maintaining uninterrupted transmission lines during the construction process.

Son La Power Company visited and presented gifts to the group of workers who were collecting and bundling cables in area 15, To Hieu ward.

Based on a practical review, the units focused on handling each cable line, prioritizing areas with high line density, sagging cables, and unsightly appearances. Mr. Dieu Chinh Tuyen, Director of Viettel To Hieu Center, shared: "Each cable line from the technical box to the customer's house was inspected and rearranged. Through the pilot implementation in To Hieu ward, the unit will learn from the experience to continue coordinating the implementation in other areas."

After the renovation, many streets are now more open and less congested. Ms. Vu Thi Kim Sinh, from Group 10, To Hieu Ward, shared: "Previously, many sections of the streets were cluttered with cables hanging low; now they have been collected and neatly arranged, making the streets more spacious and beautiful. People also feel more secure about traffic safety and fire prevention."

The reorganized and neatly bundled power cables will contribute to ensuring the safety of the power grid, facilitating firefighting, rescue, and relief efforts, and restoring the unobstructed and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the streets. Based on the results of the implementation in To Hieu ward, the units will continue to refine the plan and gradually expand it, contributing to building a safer, more civilized, and modern Son La city.
