Taking place in the midst of the 2nd Hanoi World Culture Festival, the 19th edition of the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For the Love of Hanoi presented a vivid picture of a capital city that is both rich in traditional identity and striving to become a bridge connecting the world. The awards ceremony was held on the evening of October 2nd in Hanoi.

For 19 years, the mission of the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For the Love of Hanoi has been to discover, recognize, and honor authors, works, ideas, and actions that profoundly express love for Hanoi in many areas of life.

Recognizing individuals who have dedicated their lives to, created for, and served the city.

This season, from 11 official nominations, the Jury decided to award 6 prizes and one honorable mention.

The Grand Prize - For the Love of Hanoi was awarded to poet Bang Viet, recognizing a lifetime of dedication, creativity, and service to the city.

Journalist Nguyen Thien Thuat - Editor-in-Chief of the Sports and Culture newspaper, and Head of the Organizing Committee of the award - affirmed that the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For the Love of Hanoi continues to be a place to honor the hearts, minds, and hands that have, are, and will contribute to the Capital city.

Bang Viet belongs to a generation of artists and writers who have a special connection with Hanoi. For him, the city is not only present in his poetry but also extends across many fields of activity throughout his life and career.

These include literary creation, research and study on the culture and history of Thang Long - Hanoi, state management, association work, and the organization of literary and artistic life.

In his creative work, Hanoi has been a persistent source of emotion in Bang Viet's poetry, with about 30 poems about the city that he once intended to compile into a separate collection, many of which left a lasting impression such as " Returning to My Heart" (1967), "This Land, Thang Long - Hanoi" (1973), and "Conversations with the City of My Life" (1974).

Poet Bang Viet, now over 80 years old, has made enduring and outstanding contributions to the development of literature, art, and culture in Hanoi for several decades.

Upon receiving the most important award, the poet expressed that Hanoi had given him many beautiful and unique emotions. He felt he had received many blessings from Hanoi and always strived to contribute in order to repay that kindness.

According to Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, poet Bang Viet is a very familiar face in the capital city, an outstanding figure not only in the field of poetry but also with many contributions to the cultural development of Hanoi over the years. His love for Hanoi is immense, and the award given to him is entirely deserved.

A bountiful season

Journalist Ho Quang Loi (Vice President of the Vietnam Digital Media Association, Member of the Judging Panel) commented: “The award has a very rich and high-quality number of nominations. The panel discussed and analyzed each nomination very carefully and found that all nominees deserved to receive the award. While the number of awards is limited, the selection process must be carefully considered to ensure objectivity, fairness, and accuracy.”

Representatives of the organizing committee also affirmed that this was a "bumper" season. The selected works, ideas, and initiatives spanned many fields, from painting and theater to heritage preservation and promotion, international cultural exchange, and urban development planning.

The Works category has two official awards and one honorable mention.

Each nominee has their own approach, but they all share a common goal: to make specific contributions to Hanoi.

In the Works category, there were two official awards: one for the series of lacquer paintings of the Long Bien Bridge by artist Thanh Chuong, and the other for the Cai Luong play "The Girl from Hanoi" by the Hanoi Cai Luong Theatre. The play "Southern Military Region" by the Vietnam Youth Theatre received an honorable mention.

In the Employment category, two out of four nominees were awarded prizes. The Ideas category also found a worthy winner with the pilot project to organize a cultural space and pedestrian street on Thanh Thai Street, Cau Giay Ward, Hanoi.
