The incident occurred at a Bank of America ATM in Lewisville, Texas, USA. The person who discovered the money was a 37-year-old barber. Specifically, while using the ATM with a 42-year-old woman, he noticed two bags placed on top of the machine. One bag contained cash, and the other contained 19 checks.

The information on the bag suggested the money might be linked to a nearby Chick-fil-A restaurant. The man drove to the restaurant to inquire, but the manager confirmed the money did not belong to them.
He then called 911 to report the incident to the police. Lewisville police quickly arrived, seized the two bags, and began investigating the source of the money, according to USA Today.
Notably, one of the bags contained a bank receipt. The police counted the money twice and used a cash counting machine to verify it. The result showed a total of $128,514 (over 3.3 billion VND), matching the amount recorded on the receipt.
The investigation determined the money belonged to Bank of America. Police suspected an ATM maintenance technician had accidentally left the bag of money on top of the machine. Significantly, investigators found no evidence linking the money to illegal activity. Bank of America subsequently recovered the entire sum.
Despite finding a large sum of money, the man did not ask for a reward and did not try to attract attention after handing over the money.
Gina Miller of the Lewisville Police Department said she has seen many instances of people returning lost wallets, identification, or other belongings. However, this is the first time she has seen someone hand over such a large amount of cash.
The Lewisville authorities wanted to hold a private ceremony to recognize his actions. Although he did not want to appear in public, the man said he was willing to attend if honored by the police.
