According to the investor's report, at approximately 4:15 PM on the same day, a construction machine for reinforcing cement-soil foundations (CDM) unexpectedly fell over towards Bui Huu Nghia street while being brought into the construction site and being erected. The front part of the equipment fell into the alleyway.

The initial cause was determined to be a broken axle on the turntable, leading to the device falling over.

Initially, no casualties or property damage were reported in the surrounding area. However, the overturned construction machinery caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the road.

The front part of the device fell into an alleyway near the Xuyen Tam canal construction site.

Immediately after the incident, the construction unit and the supervisory consultant mobilized manpower and coordinated with local authorities to set up barricades, reroute traffic, and rectify the problem.

The units are implementing a plan to return the equipment to the project area, minimizing the impact on local traffic, and are expected to complete the task before 6 PM on the same day.

According to the project's investor, this is one of eight CDM drilling rigs recently added by the consortium of contractors to enhance equipment and accelerate project progress.

Authorities and construction units were present to fix the problem.

The equipment that malfunctioned was in the installation phase and had not yet been inspected at the construction site by the relevant parties.

The investor stated that they will conduct a review and learn from the incident, while also scrutinizing the process of bringing equipment onto the construction site to minimize the risk of similar incidents occurring during the project's construction.

The Xuyen Tam Canal dredging, environmental improvement, and infrastructure construction project has a total investment of 17,229 billion VND from the city budget and will be implemented in the period 2023-2028.

The entire route, which has been renovated and constructed, is over 8.8km long, including the main route from the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to the Vam Thuat river, which is over 6.6km long, and 3 branch routes at Cau Son, Binh Loi, and Binh Trieu with a total length of over 2.2km.

The project is being implemented through 3 construction packages:

  • Package XL-01: The section from the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Bui Dinh Tuy bridge, including Cau Son canal, is 2.94km long.
  • Package XL-02: The section from Bui Dinh Tuy Bridge to Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, including Binh Loi Canal and Binh Trieu Canal, is approximately 4.5km long.
