Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian speaks at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, 2026.

Iran's state news agency IRNA quoted Pezeshkian as saying that Iran had been attacked three times following talks with the United States.

According to the Iranian leader, this shows that Washington is not really seeking dialogue but wants to exert pressure to bring about a change in the government in Tehran.

"With an adversary who daily resorts to assassination, sanctions, pressure, and threats, and fails to fulfill its commitments, negotiations are meaningless," Pezeshkian said.

Efforts to end the conflict between Iran and the US and Israel are at a standstill.

The two sides remain at odds over sanctions, Iran's maritime activities, and the future of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route for oil and gas.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that no military solution or sanctions could end the conflict.

Abbas Araghchi argued that an agreement could only be reached through negotiations based on the principle of fairness.
