Learn to know, experience to respond.
On the afternoon of October 4th, the People's Committee of Viet Hung Ward organized a livestream session on fire prevention and rescue with the theme "Learn to know, experience to be safe". The program took place at the Viet Hung Ward Community Learning Center on Fire Prevention and Rescue and the Viet Hung 4 Residential Area Cultural House, and was also broadcast live on the ward's Facebook page.

During the program, people were guided on how to install the 114 Fire Alarm application; equipped with knowledge on how to handle common situations when a fire is detected; practiced rescue skills and how to escape safely…
Notably, the public not only listened to information being disseminated but also directly observed, practiced, and handled simulated situations. This approach made fire safety knowledge easier to understand, remember, and, more importantly, applicable when an incident occurs.
Participating in the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van from Viet Hung 4 residential group said that people urgently need to be equipped with practical knowledge and skills about fire prevention and control, especially how to use on-site fire extinguishing equipment.
"Having the opportunity to directly practice these scenarios helps people remember and apply the knowledge more easily. This makes each person more confident in the event of a fire or explosion," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Van.

Sharing during the livestream session, Captain Nguyen Tuan Duc, an officer of the Firefighting and Rescue Team Area 1, emphasized three things people need to remember: knowing about fire prevention and control, knowing how to report a fire, and knowing how to escape.
According to Captain Nguyen Tuan Duc, one of the common mistakes when a fire occurs is that people find shelter but don't know how to prevent smoke from entering. In many cases, by the time the authorities arrive, the victims have already been affected by toxic smoke.
“In a fire, time is of the essence. If the fire has just started, it is necessary to quickly use on-site firefighting equipment to deal with it. Once the fire has spread, prioritize finding a safe place to take shelter, contain the smoke, notify the authorities, and wait for rescue,” Captain Nguyen Tuan Duc advised.
Transform knowledge into skills
Responding to local needs, the People's Committee of Viet Hung Ward recently launched a Community Learning Center on Fire Prevention and Rescue. After nearly two months of operation, the Center has initially become a place for residents, students, officials, and workers to learn, experience, and practice firefighting, evacuation, rescue, and emergency response skills.

According to Nguyen Huy Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Hung Ward, Viet Hung is an area with a rapid rate of urbanization and many types of housing, production and business establishments. Currently, there are more than 3,200 businesses and over 5,000 households, workshops, and production and business establishments in the area, posing a potential risk of fire and explosion.
“The ward is building a Community Learning Center on Fire Prevention and Rescue with the hope that people will not only hear and learn but also have a space to experience and practice firsthand. When directly handling situations, people will better understand what they need to do, how to do it, and avoid mistakes that could be dangerous,” said Mr. Nguyen Huy Vinh.
After nearly two months of operation, the Center has welcomed many groups for visits, experiences, and learning, including neighborhood officials, local security forces, civil defense personnel, students, and residents. The model has also attracted interest and exchanges of experience from several communes and wards in the city and neighboring provinces.
According to the leaders of Viet Hung ward, compared to mere propaganda, directly experiencing models and simulated situations is more effective in forming reflexes for handling emergencies. With regular learning and practice, people will be less confused and panicked, and will know how to protect themselves and assist others when incidents occur.

In the coming time, Viet Hung ward will continue to coordinate with the Fire Prevention and Fighting Team of Area 1 to expand the content of the experiential learning, creating more realistic scenarios so that people can learn, practice, and hone their skills.
"The ward will focus its resources on maintaining and developing the Center into a practical learning and experience hub for fire prevention and rescue in the community," emphasized the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Hung Ward.
