Speaking to VietNamNet , poet Ly Doi said that writer Nhat Chieu had just been hospitalized for emergency treatment due to a heart attack.
Around 5:00 AM on October 2nd, while cleaning his house after it had been flooded by the rain, writer Nhat Chieu suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. Realizing his condition was not good, he immediately informed his wife and relatives, who took him to Gia Dinh People's Hospital. There, doctors diagnosed him with a myocardial infarction and performed a stent placement procedure.

"Luckily, Mr. Chieu was taken to the hospital during the golden hour and had skilled doctors, so his condition was well controlled. He underwent surgery to have two arterial stents placed immediately, and a few hours later he regained consciousness and was transferred to a recovery room," Ly Doi said.
After receiving emergency treatment, Nhat Chieu's health has stabilized. The writer can now sit up, eat, use the restroom, and talk normally. Doctors announced that if his condition continues to improve, he may be discharged from the hospital and return home around the beginning of next week.
Ly Doi added that writer Nhat Chieu, now 75 years old, has been afraid of hospitals his whole life, so this is his first time being hospitalized and staying overnight. He has no children and lives with his wife and an older sister.
Because his wife was still working, family members had to take turns caring for him during his hospital stay. Many close students also visited and helped with the writer's meals and daily activities.

At nearly 80 years old, writer Nhat Chieu still maintains his creative work. He regularly writes poetry, posts new articles on social media, and sends his works to his students and close friends.
Nhat Chieu, born in 1951, is known for his many roles as a writer, researcher, translator, and lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. He has numerous research and creative works related to Vietnamese and world literature, and has influenced many generations of students and literature enthusiasts.
In the field of writing, Nhat Chieu made his mark with the short story collections *The Wind Eater and the Flying Bell*, *Rain of Masks*, *Writing Names on Water*, *The Prophecy of the Dewdrop* , and the poetry collection *I Am Another*. After retiring in 2011, he had more time to dedicate to writing, continuing to publish many works and maintaining his writing, research, and participation in literary seminars and discussions both domestically and internationally.
