On October 3rd, the People's Committee of An Giang province, in coordination with the government of Kandal province (Cambodia), held the opening ceremony of the Khanh Binh - Chrey Thom international road border gate.
The event is expected to open up another hub for trade, tourism , and exchange between An Giang and Kandal province in particular, and with Cambodia and the ASEAN region in general.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, said that An Giang and Kandal have close cooperation in many fields such as ensuring security and order in the border area, border demarcation and marker placement, trade, agriculture , tourism and culture.
The Khanh Binh - Chrey Thom international land border crossing has the advantage of a favorable geographical location and transportation connections, being approximately 75km from the capital Phnom Penh.

Besides road transport, the area also has advantages in waterway transportation and connectivity to the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway. These conditions are expected to create momentum for the development of border trade, logistics, and tourism.
An Giang province hopes that the Khanh Binh - Chrey Thom international border gate will become an important transit point for goods from the Mekong Delta region to the Cambodian market and other ASEAN countries.
The local authorities aim to achieve a total import and export value of approximately $1.2 billion through this pair of border gates by 2030.
Along with trade activities, the opening of the border gate aims to create interconnected international tourism routes between An Giang and Cambodia; and at the same time promote border trade activities, thereby attracting more investors to the An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone.
Mr. Ho Van Mung believes that the opening of the border crossing not only has economic significance but also contributes to strengthening cooperation, ensuring national defense and security, and managing the border between the two countries.
According to the leaders of An Giang province, both sides need to continue to coordinate closely, regularly exchange information, and promptly handle any arising issues; creating favorable conditions for immigration, import and export activities, and the exchange of goods for border residents.
The two border gates are also expected to contribute to strengthening security in the border region, proactively controlling and preventing transnational crime, high-tech crime, illegal immigration, human trafficking, and commercial fraud.
According to Mr. Kuoch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, Kandal and An Giang currently have two pairs of international border crossings: Kaom Samnor - Vinh Xuong and Chrey Thom - Khanh Binh.
In the first nine months of 2026, the volume of people crossing between the two provinces through these border gates was quite large. According to statistics, there were more than 134,000 people entering Cambodia and more than 129,000 people exiting Cambodia to Vietnam.
Besides residents of both countries, the border crossings also welcome international tourists, contributing to promoting exchanges and tourism activities between the two localities.
