Commercial electricity sales increased by 11.49%, and 45 power grid projects were commissioned.

At the conference summarizing business performance for the first nine months and outlining key tasks for the last three months of 2026, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) reported that electricity demand in 17 northern provinces and cities continues to maintain a high growth rate.

In the first nine months of 2026, EVNNPC's electricity output reached 91.14 billion kWh, an increase of approximately 11.25% compared to the same period last year. Commercial electricity sales reached 89.31 billion kWh, an increase of 11.49% and achieving 76.5% of the annual plan. The average electricity selling price reached VND 2,164.29/kWh, an increase of VND 59.53/kWh compared to the same period last year.

Along with production growth, several operational indicators continued to improve. The 9-month commercial cycle electricity loss was 3.48%, 0.27 percentage points lower than planned and 0.06 percentage points lower than the same period last year.

The average customer outage duration index (SAIDI) reached 1,263 minutes, equivalent to 62.03% of the plan and a decrease of 50.14% compared to the same period last year.

Notably, the growth rate of commercial electricity consumption exceeding 11% continues to put pressure on the power distribution infrastructure in the North, especially in the context of many localities setting high economic growth targets and the demand for electricity for production, business, industrial zones, and new investment projects continuing to increase.

In terms of construction investment, over the past nine months, EVNNPC has commenced 47 110 kV power grid projects and energized 45 projects, while also implementing medium and low voltage projects under the 2026 plan.

EVNNPC is deploying battery energy storage systems (BESS). Phase 1 has been energized and put into operation at 24 out of 47 110 kV substations, and subsequent phases are being implemented according to plan.

A new investment direction being implemented by EVNNPC is the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Phase 1 has been energized and put into operation at 24 out of 47 110 kV substations, and subsequent phases are being implemented according to plan.

Self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power continues to develop. EVNNPC currently has 16,151 customers with a total capacity of approximately 709.4 MW.

Alongside infrastructure investment, EVNNPC continues to deploy GIS, a centralized data warehouse, data mining and analysis tools, and automation and digitalization in operational management, business, and customer service.

Financially, Fitch Ratings upgraded EVNNPC's Independent Credit Profile (SCP) from "bb" to "bb+", while affirming its long-term foreign currency issuer rating (IDR) at "BB+", with a stable outlook.

Investment pressure on the power grid for 2027

EVNNPC has identified the last three months of the year as a crucial period to both complete the 2026 plan and prepare the infrastructure for electricity demand in 2027.

EVNNPC aims to continue removing investment obstacles, striving to complete 34 projects that commenced construction and 45 projects that were put into operation as planned. Medium and low voltage power grid projects and works included in the 2026 plan are required to be completed before December 15, 2026.

EVN General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan gave instructions at the EVNNPC conference.

In addition, the Corporation will review load demand and grid capacity, coordinate with localities in planning and developing the power system; and at the same time continue to reduce losses, control operations and improve the quality of electricity supply.

This requirement is all the more noteworthy given that commercial electricity growth in the first nine months reached 11.49%. If electricity demand continues to remain high, the pressure will lie not only in the electricity supply capacity but also in the transmission and distribution capacity to areas with rapidly increasing load.

EVNNPC General Director Nguyen Duc Thien requested that units proactively grasp load demand, orient the development of power sources and grids, and promptly propose solutions to ensure that the power infrastructure meets the requirements of production, business development, and investment attraction in the northern provinces and cities.

With many localities aiming for double-digit economic growth, the ability to promptly meet electricity demand has become one of the crucial infrastructure conditions for new production and investment projects.

Therefore, EVNNPC's challenge in the coming period is not only to ensure sufficient electricity supply at any given time, but also to bring grid projects into operation before the load increases to the point of causing overload. Early preparation of electricity supply plans for 2027, accelerating investment in 110 kV, medium and low voltage grids, along with the development of BESS and self-sufficient rooftop solar power will be key tasks to enhance the ability to meet the electricity demand of the Northern region.

Within the framework of the Conference, EVNNPC held a ceremony to present the Labor Order from the President of Vietnam and receive the Emulation Flag from the Government.
