On October 3rd, information from the Hue City Department of Education and Training indicated that the unit had recently collaborated with the University of Foreign Languages - Hue University to implement a pilot program for teaching Chinese in some secondary schools starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.
According to the plan, Chinese will be taught as a second foreign language at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School (for 6th grade students) and Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted - Hue (for 10th grade students).
The target participants are students currently studying Foreign Language 1 in the general education program who wish to learn Chinese as an additional language and have the consent of their parents or guardians. Classes will be organized based on the number of registrations and the actual conditions of each school, ensuring transparency, fairness, and compliance with regulations.
The program follows the Chinese language curriculum - Foreign Language 2 of the Ministry of Education and Training, focusing on developing communication skills and the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The expected duration is 3 lessons per week, equivalent to 105 lessons per academic year.
According to the Hue City Department of Education and Training, the inclusion of Chinese language instruction aims to diversify foreign language options for students, meet their learning needs, and expand opportunities for international integration and future study abroad.
According to city education leaders, with the participation of lecturers from the Department of Chinese Language, Hue University of Foreign Languages, the pilot program will create a foundation for gradually expanding the teaching of Chinese at educational institutions in the city.
This activity also contributes to the implementation of the Project to strengthen foreign language teaching and learning in the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2045, while improving the quality of human resources to meet the requirements of international integration in the new era.
