On the morning of October 3rd, at the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village in Doai Phuong commune, Hanoi City People's Committee organized the launching ceremony for the "Vietnam Culture Day" 2026. With the message "Thang Long Hanoi, a thousand years of civilization - The myriad colors of Vietnam," the event marked the beginning of a series of activities honoring national culture in the capital city, lasting until November 24th.

2026 marks the first year of the Vietnamese Culture Day. The program in Hanoi aims to affirm the role of the people in creating, preserving, and promoting cultural values, while expanding opportunities for the community to participate in, experience, and enjoy culture.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha said that Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture unanimously chose November 24th every year as Vietnamese Culture Day. Organizing activities in response to this initiative places the responsibility on people to integrate cultural values into daily life, awaken national pride, and strengthen national unity.

According to Ms. Vu Thu Ha, culture needs to be reflected in lifestyle, behavior, and the daily living environment. The city aims to create conditions for people to directly participate in, create, and enjoy cultural products, thereby continuing traditional values in today's life.

With its rich heritage, Hanoi has defined its cultural development according to the orientation of "Culture - Identity - Creativity - Integration - Connection". The integration of Thang Long culture with the cultural regions of Xu Doai, Xu Dong, Kinh Bac, and Son Nam Thuong contributes to enriching the identity of the capital city, linking heritage preservation with the promotion of cultural values.

One part of the program is the signing of a Coordination Regulation between Hanoi and 10 provinces and cities regarding the organization of activities at the Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village. These localities include Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Son La, Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Hue City, and Can Tho City.

According to the Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, from July 1, 2026, the Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village will be transferred from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Hanoi for management. The coordination regulations aim to strengthen cooperation between localities, support ethnic communities in practicing and transmitting their heritage, and improve the quality of activities at the Vietnam Ethnic Groups Cultural and Tourism Village.

To make Vietnam Culture Day a people's festival, Ms. Vu Thu Ha suggested that departments, agencies, wards, and communes develop activities to celebrate the occasion in accordance with their actual conditions. Along with that, they should build a civilized working environment and enhance responsibility and a culture of service to the people.

Local authorities are urged to prioritize the allocation of resources and the effective utilization of cultural institutions and public spaces; and to support the dissemination of valuable cultural works and products to the public. The city also encourages and commends beautification efforts, community initiatives, and citizen participation in building a vibrant cultural life.
