At the World Travel Awards ceremony for Asia, Oceania and the Indian Ocean region, held in the Maldives on September 27, 2026, Hanoi was honored to receive two awards: “Asia’s Leading City Break Destination” and “Vietnam’s Leading City Cultural Destination”.
Notably, this is the fifth consecutive year, from 2022 to 2026, that Hanoi has been honored in the category of “Asia’s Leading City Destination for Short Getaways”. This result further recognizes the capital's attractiveness to domestic and international tourists, especially those seeking short getaways with rich experiences.
With its advantageous urban landscape, heritage sites, cultural spaces, and diverse tourism services, Hanoi is capable of meeting many experiential needs within a short stay. Its repeated recognition in this category demonstrates the capital's appeal as a destination, especially given the increasing interest of tourists in itineraries that combine cultural and historical exploration with experiencing local life.
In the category of “Vietnam’s Leading Cultural Destination,” 2026 marks Hanoi’s second win, following its first in 2024. The award recognizes the city’s cultural, historical, and traditional values, home to a rich system of tangible and intangible cultural heritage preserved and promoted over centuries.

With a history spanning over 1,000 years, Hanoi embodies the unique values of national culture, creating a distinct appeal for tourists who enjoy exploring history, architecture, customs, and cultural life. This also serves as a foundation for the city to develop tourism products linked to heritage, gradually bringing traditional values closer to both domestic and international audiences.
Besides its cultural resources, Hanoi is constantly developing its infrastructure, services, and high-quality tourism products to meet the increasingly diverse needs of tourists. Combining the preservation and promotion of heritage values with product innovation and improved service quality contributes to enriching the destination experience, while simultaneously promoting the image of the capital city and Vietnamese tourism internationally.
In the context of tourism development, culture and heritage are not only important resources but also create the identity and competitiveness of Hanoi. Therefore, being honored again at the World Travel Awards is a driving force for the city to promote the exploitation of its unique values, while linking tourism development with heritage preservation and the safeguarding of cultural identity.
Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2026, of the Politburo on developing Vietnamese tourism into a key economic sector in the new era emphasizes the fundamental role of culture, considering identity and quality of experience as competitive advantages. In this context, the international awards given to Hanoi contribute to affirming the significance of promoting cultural and historical values in building destination brands, while also highlighting the need to continue improving the quality of tourism products and services.
In the coming period, Hanoi's tourism sector will be oriented towards high-quality, green, smart, creative, and sustainable development, in line with the implementation of Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo. Following the national orientation of strongly developing the three tourism growth poles, Hanoi will focus on leveraging its advantages in culture, heritage, cuisine , and unique local values.
In addition, the city focuses on diversifying and improving the quality of tourism products, developing cultural tourism, experiential tourism, and the night-time economy; continuing to innovate in tourism promotion and marketing, strengthening the application of digital technology, and enhancing the quality of the visitor experience.
These orientations contribute to effectively developing the potential and strengths of Hanoi's tourism, creating more attractiveness for the destination and enhancing its ability to meet the needs of various tourist markets. Through this, Hanoi continues to consolidate its position on the regional and international tourism map, while spreading the cultural and historical values of Thang Long – Hanoi to friends around the world.
