Gold prices are fluctuating around a sensitive level, with experts warning they could retest $4,000 per ounce.

On the international market, spot gold was trading at $4,139.8 per ounce at the beginning of the week, down $36.7 per ounce from the previous session. Converted using the Vietcombank exchange rate of 26,170 VND/USD, world gold is equivalent to approximately VND 130.62 million per tael, excluding taxes and fees.

World gold prices today, October 4, 2026, closed at $4,139.8 per ounce, a decrease of nearly 1%.

The outlook for gold prices remains unclear as supporting and supporting factors continue to intertwine. According to Simon-Peter Massabni, Head of Business Development at XS.com, the precious metal is currently being pulled in two directions: weakening US economic prospects create expectations of monetary easing, while high bond yields and inflation limit the potential for recovery.

Massabni argues that the US jobs report provided some support for gold from a monetary policy perspective. However, this signal is not strong enough to confirm the return of a longer-term uptrend. The key factor to watch is not just how much the labor market weakens, but more importantly, whether that weakening is strong enough to push bond yields down.

The slowdown in the labor market has also altered expectations for the Federal Reserve's policy. However, persistent inflationary pressures remain a major obstacle to the possibility of easing policy.

Bill Adams, CEO and chief economist at Fifth Third Commercial Bank, assessed that the September 2026 jobs report, while disappointing, was not weak enough to cause the Fed to shift its attention away from inflation.

David Morrison, Senior Market Analyst at Trade Nation, also shared a cautious view. According to him, it is still too early to say whether the difficult period for gold is over.

The Fed's pause on interest rate cuts this month doesn't mean the door to easing is completely closed. However, inflation is likely to remain a bigger priority, with the goal of maximizing employment temporarily taking a backseat.

Morrison believes that gold may continue to fluctuate in the short term, but the potential for a significant decline may not be too great. If the US dollar maintains its strength and gold prices fail to mount a strong enough recovery, the market could retest the support zone around $4,000 per ounce.

According to him, if this price range reappears, gold could enter a consolidation phase before forming a new upward trend.

Meanwhile, Lukman Otunuga, Senior Market Analyst at FXTM, still believes the upward trend in gold has not been completely broken. However, inflation and geopolitical uncertainties are making interest rate prospects more unpredictable and limiting the precious metal's upward momentum.

According to Otunuga, the $4,200/ounce level will continue to be a key point to watch next week.
