The project aims to develop medicinal plants under the forest canopy in a sustainable manner, forming concentrated raw material areas linked to biodiversity conservation. This will enhance the economic value of forests, create jobs, and increase income for local people.

By 2030, the locality will complete the survey, build a database and map of the distribution of medicinal plant species; identify areas with potential for developing medicinal plants under the forest canopy on a scale of 31,000 hectares. Along with that, establish two centers for planting, testing, and producing seedlings in the western and eastern regions; and build one center for preserving traditional medicine knowledge and valuable medicinal plant gene resources.

The plan outlines the projected development of 31,000 hectares of medicinal plants, taking into account the ecological factors of each locality, focusing on communes with large areas of natural forest and suitable canopy cover.

By 2050, Gia Lai aims to conserve and develop medicinal plants under the forest canopy over an area of approximately 50,000 hectares, striving to become a key medicinal plant production area in the Central Highlands region.

Mr. Truong Thanh Ha, Acting Head of the Gia Lai Forest Protection Department, said the project plays an important role in forest protection associated with the conservation and development of valuable medicinal plant genetic resources and creating livelihoods for the people.

When people benefit from forests through the development of medicinal plants, they will have more motivation to preserve and protect the forests, contributing to the conservation of valuable medicinal plant genetic resources and keeping the forests green.
