With these results, GDP for the first nine months of 2026 is estimated to have increased by 9.01% compared to the same period last year.

Twelve out of 34 localities achieved GRDP growth of 10% or more, led by Quang Ninh, Ha Tinh, and Hai Phong. Generally, high growth was concentrated in localities with strong industrial foundations and large-scale manufacturing and processing operations. Investment, exports, and services also contributed to the economic growth of these localities, contributing to the overall national growth.

Over the first nine months, the industrial and construction sector and the service sector continued to account for the highest proportion, acting as a support for the economy. Specifically, the industrial and construction sector grew by 11.21% and the service sector by 8.69% compared to the same period last year. These two groups contributed the most to the added value of the economy (contributions of 45% and 49.6%, respectively).

According to the General Statistics Office, the industrial sector maintained relatively strong growth thanks to expanding growth drivers, the commissioning of several large-scale projects, the recovery of export orders, and accelerated progress in public investment. The added value of the entire sector was approximately 11.02% compared to the same period last year.

In the service sector, trade, transportation, tourism , and other services supporting daily life continued to grow positively. Along with this, domestic demand for goods, services, and tourism remained high, making a significant contribution to the overall economic growth. The value added in the service sector was 8.69% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector saw an added value increase of approximately 4.02%. Productivity and output of rice, fruit trees, livestock, and aquaculture grew positively, meeting both domestic and export demands.

"Despite the uncertain global economic context, Vietnam's socio-economic performance in the third quarter and the first nine months of 2026 continued to achieve positive and significant results in most sectors and fields," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ).

Total merchandise import and export turnover for the first nine months exceeded US$888 billion, an increase of 30.4%. Of this, exports reached US$434.3 billion, an increase of 24.5%; and imports reached US$453.72 billion, an increase of 36.7%.

Investment continues to be a driving force of the economy. Total social investment at current prices reached approximately 3.11 million billion VND, an increase of 15.1% compared to the same period last year. The non-state sector accounted for 53% of the total investment.

Investment capital disbursed from the State budget reached VND 661,800 billion, an increase of 19%, equivalent to 59.9% of the annual plan - higher than the same period last year.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows also increased. Total registered capital, including new investments, adjustments, and capital contributions/share purchases, reached US$50.36 billion, an increase of 76.4%. Actual FDI reached US$21.07 billion, an increase of 12.1%, the highest figure for the first nine months of the past five years. The processing and manufacturing industry received over 82% of the actual investment.

The average CPI for the first nine months increased by 4.52% compared to the same period last year, while core inflation rose by 4.26%.

The report from the General Statistics Office also shows that the consumer price index (CPI) in September 2026 increased by 0.62% compared to the previous month, mainly due to domestic gasoline and diesel prices being adjusted upwards in line with world fuel prices, and some universities and private schools adjusting tuition fees for the new academic year.

Compared to December 2025, the CPI in September increased by 4.2%; and by 5.08% year-on-year. The average CPI for the third quarter of 2026 increased by 4.8% compared to the third quarter of 2025. For the first nine months of 2026, the average CPI increased by 4.52% year-on-year; core inflation increased by 4.26%.

Among the 11 main consumer goods and services groups, the housing, electricity, water, fuel, and building materials group recorded a 6.68% increase, contributing 1.52 percentage points to the overall CPI increase.

The food and beverage group increased by 4.72%, contributing the largest increase to the overall CPI by 1.69 percentage points. Meanwhile, the transportation group increased by 6.06%, contributing 0.6 percentage points.

Several other groups also recorded price increases during the nine months. Other goods and services increased by 4.61%, contributing 0.17 percentage points to the overall CPI; beverages and tobacco increased by 3.74%, contributing 0.07 percentage points; and education increased by 3.35%, contributing 0.20 percentage points.

Prices of household appliances and goods increased by 2.84%, impacting a 0.15 percentage point increase; culture, entertainment, and tourism increased by 2.78%, impacting a 0.09 percentage point increase; clothing, hats, and footwear increased by 2.05%, impacting a 0.07 percentage point increase. The group of medicines and medical services increased by 1.12%, while information and communication increased by 0.12%.
