Remove the water fountains and increase greenery and open spaces.

On the afternoon of October 6th, Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, conducted a site inspection of the An Thuong Tourist Street Project, Phase 2, in Ngu Hanh Son Ward.

Mr. Phan Dinh Duc, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation and Agriculture Projects, said that phase 1 of the An Thuong tourist area has been completed.

Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, conducted a site inspection and outlined adjustments to the investment plan for the An Thuong Tourist Street project, phase 2.

Phase 2 has a total investment of approximately 104 billion VND. The initial plan includes a central square, sports facilities, a stage, a musical fountain, green spaces, a lighting system, and other public amenities…

After inspecting the site, Mr. Hung requested a review of the plan, prioritizing amenities that residents and tourists can use regularly.

In this regard, the musical fountain is no longer a priority. Mr. Hung believes that if approximately 40 billion VND is allocated to this item, its effectiveness in creating a focal point also needs to be considered, while the area lacks greenery, parking spaces, and public areas.

Parking space also needs to be recalculated in the revised plan. The Department of Construction, in coordination with the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son Ward, will survey locations to arrange a public parking lot combined with a park.

"A tourist area without parking is unacceptable," Mr. Hung emphasized.

At the area where the square is planned to be expanded, Mr. Hung personally surveyed the old apartment complex located right next to the project. The building is currently dilapidated, with many outdated features, and is situated in the central area of the tourist zone.

Mr. Hung emphasized that the An Thuong area needs investment and spatial reorganization to create more products and activities to serve residents and tourists, thereby supporting the development of the city's night-time economy .

Mr. Nguyen Hoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son Ward, reported that this apartment complex has deteriorated, affecting the aesthetics of the area.

After conducting a survey, Mr. Hung requested that this area be included in the study for adjusting the 1/500 detailed planning, linked to land clearance for expanding the square and park.

The old apartment complex in An Thuong is dilapidated, with a shabby appearance, and is located in an area being studied for renovation and expansion of the public square.

Mr. Duc said that if the apartment complex were demolished, the open space could more than double. This would provide more opportunities for cultural activities, street music , and nighttime events.

Don't demolish all the buildings that are still in good condition.

Another site that Mr. Hung spent a lot of time inspecting was the My An Cultural and Sports Center, invested in by K&H Trading and Technology Transfer Company Limited.

The center currently features a swimming pool, gym, yoga studio, football field, a three-story building, and many other sports and recreational facilities.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Khai, Director of K&H Trading and Technology Transfer Company Limited, said that the company has invested nearly 40 billion VND in the entire project.

Many items at the My An Cultural and Sports Center are proposed to be preserved or renovated instead of being completely demolished.

Walking past the swimming pool, training area, and existing buildings, Mr. Hung commented that many facilities are still in good condition and have been quite well-invested in. Demolishing them all would be a great waste.

Therefore, the consulting firm was asked to study the possibility of retaining the parts that are still in good condition, including the building and swimming pool, and then renovate and repurpose them to suit the new plan.

One proposed solution is to create an open cultural center where people can come to socialize, relax, and exercise at various times throughout the day.

Mr. Hung requested that the design take into account the possibility of 24/7 use, even in sunny or rainy weather, instead of creating a closed structure or one that operates only during certain hours.

"We must carefully consider how to create a new product that truly serves the people," Mr. Hung noted.

The swimming pools, training areas, and outdoor spaces are also designed to connect with the community center and other relevant services. Once completed, the selection of the operating company will be conducted publicly.

The An Thuong Tourist Quarter Project, Phase 2, is proposed to be adjusted to enhance amenities for residents and tourists and to support the development of the night-time economy.

Regarding the progress, Mr. Hung instructed the Department of Construction to prepare a fund of social housing to serve the relocation of households in the old apartment complex this year, striving to complete the clearance in the first quarter of next year. The investor and consulting unit must submit the revised design plan in November.

Phase 2 of the An Thuong Tourist Town project will be implemented during the period 2024-2027, with expected completion by the end of 2027.
