Appearing on the recent Star Check talk show, singer and music producer Cheng shared interesting insights about his artistic journey. Not only did he open up about his fears when starting his career as a "blank slate," but the singer also revealed a special habit he has before each stage performance.

The habit of "freezing" for 15 minutes before the big moment.

When asked by MC Thai Trang about what he usually does to pray for good luck before going on stage, Cheng surprised the female MC by revealing a rather unique habit, completely contrary to the usual lively demeanor of other artists. The male singer shared: "I have a habit of not interacting with anyone before going on stage."

According to Cheng, this state of absolute stillness usually lasts for about 15 minutes, from the moment the crew puts on his headphones until he actually steps onto the stage. He humorously describes his appearance at that time: "While all the other guys around me are dancing and checking things out, I close my eyes and sit still..." This brief but completely separate moment from the noisy atmosphere helps the singer balance his energy, concentrate intensely, and shake off all stress to fully immerse himself in the music.

From the fear of being a "blank page" to the resilience of a leader.

Sharing his reasons for participating in "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles ," Cheng said it was an opportunity to challenge himself and find answers about his artistic path. Having spent over 10 years in the recording studio making music for himself and many other artists, he had always been troubled by the question of whether he truly had a knack for the stage.

Standing before the audience and big names in the industry, Cheng admitted to being extremely nervous and insecure. Despite presenting the image of a confident male artist with silver hair and a captivating performance style, Cheng honestly confessed: "I tried to create a facade of being strong. At the beginning of the show, I was very anxious and insecure. Very few people know an artist who comes from a recording studio. My stage skills are also very limited because I usually only dance in the studio. I brought all of that onto the stage."

"I was afraid to enter a show where no one knew me, like a blank page, afraid I would be eliminated early. But when I came here, the answer I received was that I also have a knack for the stage, so people love me," the male singer confessed.

Cheng proudly recounted two pivotal moments that helped him break through his own limitations. The first was his reunion round performance of the medley "Zung zăng zung zẻ" and "Drifting into My Heart ." Amidst the elaborate staging and choreography of his fellow contestants' performances, Cheng took to the stage with only a microphone.

"It's rare for me to step onto a stage with such a large audience... I was scared, I didn't know what to do on that stage. But when I actually stepped up there, for the first time I thought I had overcome my fear, conquered myself," Cheng confided.

The second milestone marking Cheng's remarkable growth was at Performance 3, when he was entrusted by his fellow artists with the role of Leader of a House. Taking on the responsibility of leading the group under tight rehearsal schedules and increasingly rushed deadlines was an immense pressure. However, with his resourcefulness, he successfully balanced the most difficult task: the personalities and desires of all the team members. Having overcome this enormous workload, Cheng felt truly proud of his own capabilities.

Explaining his somewhat "mischievous" and unique musical style in songs like "Drifting into My Heart" or "Night Dance ," Cheng said he has a special passion for the Vietnamese language. The singer revealed: "I really enjoy bringing everyday things and words that people have long forgotten in daily Vietnamese communication into music, allowing young people to remember them again, while also making older generations feel very familiar when they hear them."

Besides sharing the hidden aspects of his stage persona, in the show "Sao Check ," Cheng also showcased his versatile talent and unique musical thinking. Right on live television, the singer successfully completed an improvisational rap challenge over a beat, with a tongue-twisting lyric containing only L and N consonants.
