Warner Bros. and DC Studios have temporarily halted production of The Batman Part II because director Matt Reeves needs time to deal with personal matters.
"Production for The Batman Part II has been temporarily suspended while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to resuming this journey soon," a representative said in a statement.

Robert Pattinson returns as Batman (Caped Crusader) in this highly anticipated superhero sequel, which has already experienced numerous delays. The Batman Part II was originally scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, before Warner Bros. moved it to October 1, 2027. Then, in July 2026, the studio pushed the release date further to February 2028. The first "Batman" film, directed by Reeves, was released in March 2022. In addition to Pattinson, the cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright.
Following the initial delay, James Gunn, head of DC Studios, explained the postponement on the social media platform Threads. He stated that it's quite common for blockbuster films to have long gaps between installments: "To be fair, a gap of five years or more between sequels is quite common. Seven years between Alien and Aliens, 14 years between the Incredibles films, seven years between the first two Terminator films, 13 years between the Avatar films, 36 years between the Top Gun films. And of course, six years between Guardians Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. "
In a recent interview, Pattinson shared: " The Batman Part II offers a completely different perspective compared to the first film. This movie is ambitious. It takes a completely new direction from the first one, but somehow still retains the elements that made the previous film unique."
