The production team of the feature film "Flying Dairy Cow" recently held a showcase in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the debut feature film of director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat, following his short film projects "Milk Residue" and "Wooden Fish," which have won numerous domestic and international awards.
Set on a dairy farm in Moc Chau in the 1990s, "Flying Dairy Cow" revolves around the story of a special formula milk developed for its ability to heal wounds, rejuvenate, and potentially generate significant profits. Driven by a desire to escape poverty, a group of workers, including Trau (played by Nguyen Hung) and three brothers, plan to steal the formula.
In this mission, Trâu is tasked by Deputy Director Văn (Lãnh Thanh) with approaching San (Ngọc Xuân), the daughter of the farm director and the creator of the milk formula. However, from his initial intention to exploit her, Trâu gradually develops feelings for San, facing a choice between continuing to complete the plan to help his family or giving up everything to follow his love.
The film's trailer reveals many ironic and tragicomic situations, along with a series of plot twists. Besides the relationship between Trau and San, the story also features Mai (Tieu Vy), a welfare officer who harbors feelings for Trau, and Quan (Vo Dien Gia Huy), who tries to win San's heart. The conflicts between the group of workers and the characters on the farm create an atmosphere that is both tense and humorous.

For director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat, the imagery of flying cows and other unusual details stem from a desire to transport viewers to a world they might find difficult to experience in real life. He stated that the film's creation process spanned many years, with various versions of "Milk Remnants" serving as experiments in ideas and cinematic language before he made the feature film. The time from the initial idea to the completion of the script took three years.
Producer Nguyen Huu Tuong Vi considers "Flying Dairy Cow" a unique project, stemming from an unconventional idea yet still revolving around familiar values such as family affection, love, and friendship. The story of poor workers wanting to change their lives, budding romances, and choices between family responsibilities, money, and love forms the core of the film.
The film also features a blend of genres, with a fast-paced and intense rhythm. According to the producers, novel elements are incorporated into a story about ordinary people, creating a balance between everyday life and fresh experiences.
To create a world that is both historically significant and fantastical, the team meticulously planned the details of set design, lighting, sound, and visual language. The Moc Chau farm setting is recreated with nostalgic colors, while surreal details create a unique world.
