The event not only serves to pay tribute to our ancestors, but also contributes to educating about patriotic traditions, preserving the unique cultural values of the locality, and strengthening community cohesion.

Preparing for the National Heroes' Remembrance Day

According to the plan, activities commemorating the 158th anniversary of the sacrifice of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc will take place over three days, from October 6th to 8th (corresponding to the 26th to 28th of the 8th lunar month) at Hoang Bon Canh communal house, Canh Den hamlet, Vinh Phong commune.

In early October, local authorities simultaneously implemented various measures to ensure that the activities were organized solemnly, safely, and effectively. Banners, slogans, and festival flags were displayed along the roads and in the event areas. The interior and exterior of Hoang Bon Canh communal house were renovated and decorated to create a solemn atmosphere leading up to the commemoration day.

Along with propaganda efforts, the assigned forces reviewed and finalized each item according to the program. The altars were meticulously prepared; the stage, sound, and lighting systems for cultural and artistic activities were installed and thoroughly checked. Specific plans were also developed for welcoming delegates, serving the public, ensuring environmental hygiene, food safety, fire prevention and control, security and order, and traffic safety.

According to the program, on October 6th, there will be folk games, making banh tet (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), welcoming visitors, and a traditional music and singing exchange program with the participation of the Vinh Phong Commune Traditional Music and Singing Club and other clubs in the hamlets.

October 7th marked the main events, including a welcoming cultural program, reception of delegates, opening ceremony, a review of traditions, and a ceremony to offer incense in remembrance of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc. On October 8th, the Management Board of Hoang Bon Canh Temple continued to serve the public who came to visit and offer incense in remembrance.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Phong commune, the commemoration ceremony for national hero Nguyen Trung Truc at Hoang Bon Canh communal house has been maintained by the communal house's management board and the people since 2004, when the statue of Mr. Nguyen was brought to be worshipped there. However, 2026 marks the first time the local government has coordinated the organization of commemorative activities on a larger scale, lasting longer and with richer content.

"Through this activity, the locality hopes to continue to express its respect and gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc and his troops; at the same time, to educate cadres, party members, and all strata of the people, especially the younger generation, about the tradition of patriotism, national pride, and the principle of 'drinking water, remembering the source'," Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh shared.

Spreading historical values

The Hoang Bon Canh communal house, where commemorative activities take place, is a religious institution deeply intertwined with the lives of the local people. According to the records of the communal house's management board, nearly 140 years ago, the first migrants who came to the Canh Den area to clear land and settle built a small shrine to worship the local deity Hoang Bon Canh. Through numerous constructions, renovations, and post-war restorations, the communal house has become an important cultural and religious space for the local community.

Since 2004, Hoang Bon Canh communal house has enshrined a statue of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc and maintained an annual commemoration ceremony on the 28th day of the 8th lunar month. Besides worshipping the local deity Hoang Bon Canh, the communal house also venerates President Ho Chi Minh and other prominent figures who contributed to the reclamation, development, and preservation of the village.

According to the Party Secretary of Vinh Phong commune, the convergence of many layers of cultural, historical, and religious values has created the unique character of Hoang Bon Canh communal house. It is not only a place that meets the religious needs of the people but also a place that preserves memories of the formation of the homeland, patriotic traditions, and the moral principle of remembering those who have contributed to the country.

National hero Nguyen Trung Truc was one of the most prominent figures of the anti-French resistance movement in Southern Vietnam in the 19th century. His name and achievements have become symbols of patriotism, unwavering will, and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.

According to the leaders of Vinh Phong commune, the locality considers maintaining and promoting activities commemorating national hero Nguyen Trung Truc as a long-term task. In the coming time, in addition to preserving traditional rituals, the commune will continue to organize appropriate cultural, artistic, sports , and folk game activities; and strengthen propaganda about the life, career, and patriotic spirit of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc to union members, youth, and students.

The local government's orientation is to make the commemoration of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc at Hoang Bon Canh communal house one of the annual events of the commune, linked with community cultural programs such as the Cultural - Sports - Food Festival or the Lantern Festival on the Full Moon night of the first lunar month. Through this, it contributes to preserving traditional cultural spaces, strengthening community solidarity, educating patriotism, and promoting the image of the land and people of Vinh Phong to locals and tourists.
