This article commemorates the 51st anniversary of the unit's establishment (October 6, 1975 - October 6, 2026) by the Youth Union of the National Border Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

A new phase with a new mission.

2026 marks the first year that the entire Party and people of Vietnam will put the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam into practice. A new stage of development will begin with great opportunities, inspiring self-reliance and self-strength, enabling the Vietnamese nation to confidently rise to the next level.

Amidst that heroic atmosphere, generations of civil servants and workers of the National Border Committee proudly celebrate the 51st anniversary of the unit's establishment (October 6, 1975 - October 6, 2026).

After more than half a century of quiet but glorious dedication, 2026 marks the beginning of the second 50-year journey of the National Border Committee, with bigger goals and higher demands in the cause of protecting national sovereignty and territory and promoting cooperation to serve national development.

On this new journey, the young generation of the National Border Committee today is the core force to continue the tradition of loyalty, courage, intelligence, and dedication of the veteran cadres, while also shouldering new responsibilities and tasks in the face of profound and unpredictable changes in the world and regional situation.

The achievements of more than half a century left for the youth of the border region.

Looking back on its historical journey, the National Border Committee, along with units within and outside the Ministry, as well as relevant localities, have gone through a challenging but extremely proud period.

That's 45 years, starting from the first territorial border negotiations in 1974 with China to the signing of border documents with Cambodia in 2019, to delineate the entire more than 5,000 km of land border between Vietnam and its neighbors. This included the completion of demarcation and placement of land border markers on the ground with China and Laos, and approximately 84% of the land border with Cambodia.

It was a decades-long negotiation process leading to the signing of maritime delimitation agreements with neighboring countries, starting with Thailand in 1997 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Maritime Boundary in the Gulf of Thailand), China in 2000 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Territorial Sea, Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Tonkin), and Indonesia in 2003 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Continental Shelf) and 2022 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone).

These great and comprehensive achievements have laid a clear legal foundation for national borders, contributing to ensuring national security and defense, and maintaining a long-term peaceful and stable environment for the country. This also provides a solid foundation for strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and its neighbors, and creates conditions for Vietnam to confidently and proactively integrate deeply into the international community.

Nearly 100 border gates of various types have been planned, upgraded, and are operating smoothly, connecting trade between our country and neighboring countries and the region. Breakthrough cooperation models have emerged, including the Ban Gioc Waterfall Scenic Area (Vietnam) - Duc Thien (China), a model of cross-border cooperation.

In addition, the National Border Committee has established and effectively maintained many cooperation mechanisms, notably maritime dialogues with 10 major partners worldwide, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and Türkiye, contributing to affirming Vietnam's role as an active and responsible member of the international community.

Inheriting a long and proud tradition of border and territorial affairs is an honor for every young civil servant and worker of the National Border Committee. This tradition was forged through challenging, complex, and protracted diplomatic fronts, along with close cooperation and coordination with ministries, departments, and localities.

It is a glorious career, requiring every border worker to be absolutely loyal, placing national interests above all else; it is the tempering of unwavering character; it is the dedication, perseverance, and tireless effort day and night, combined with intelligence and shrewdness at the negotiating table, closely integrated with meticulous precision down to the smallest technical detail in surveying, demarcation, and marker placement in challenging terrain.

However, this honor and pride also places new demands and tasks on the younger generation of civil servants and workers of the National Border Committee, urging them to constantly strive, train, and cultivate themselves to further consolidate the foundation that previous generations have built.

Inheriting a glorious legacy: Requirements and tasks set forth.

Entering a new era for the nation, the international and regional context presents border and territorial work with vast opportunities accompanied by complex and intertwined challenges. Besides the traditional task of protecting and managing borders, border and territorial work in this new phase also emphasizes cooperation and expanding the country's development space. To successfully fulfill its assigned mission and ignite the "green aspiration"—the green of youth, of peace and hope—the young generation of the National Border Committee needs to focus on successfully carrying out the following key tasks:

Firstly , they must be steadfast, cultivate political fortitude, and be absolutely loyal to the ideals of the Party and the national interests. This is the guiding principle and the solid ideological foundation for every young civil servant and worker of the National Border Committee to remain unwavering in the face of all challenges, always vigilant and resolute in firmly protecting the national borders, territory, and sovereignty.

In the face of the rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments in the international and regional situation, this unwavering resolve serves as a sharp ideological "filter," helping the younger generation stand firm against all information flows, uphold revolutionary vigilance, and maintain the flame of enthusiasm and a high sense of responsibility in every political task assigned to them.

Secondly , it is essential to continuously cultivate and master knowledge. In light of the new demands placed on border and territorial work, the younger generation of the National Border Committee must constantly learn and improve their knowledge of history, politics, and law to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding. Besides professional knowledge, each young officer also needs to strengthen necessary skills such as situation assessment and analysis skills, negotiation skills, etc., to handle thorny border and territorial issues, contributing to improving the quality of strategic forecasting and advisory work.

In particular, in the context of the rapidly evolving Fourth Industrial Revolution, young officials need to grasp and apply science and technology to their work in a proactive, creative, and effective manner, while still ensuring information security and safety.

Thirdly , we must foster a spirit of dedication and always be ready to overcome our own limitations. In the face of unpredictable changes in the international and regional context, new difficulties and challenges will constantly arise, requiring the young generation of the National Border Committee to demonstrate a pioneering spirit, bravely tackle difficult and new tasks, and be ready to accept and conquer all assigned responsibilities. Every young civil servant and worker needs to cultivate innovative thinking and a receptive attitude to learn from the experience of their predecessors, while simultaneously leveraging their youthful energy and dynamism.

Completing these tasks is key to enabling the next generation to transform challenges into opportunities and confidently shoulder the mission of border and territorial work in the new era.

Ready to confidently move forward on this new path.

Recognizing that the achievements of today are due to the tireless efforts of previous generations, the youth of the National Border Committee always carry within them a deep sense of pride and gratitude. In the atmosphere of celebrating the 51st anniversary of the National Border Committee's establishment, the youth of the Committee proudly "continue the tradition of loyalty, courage, intelligence, and dedication," with technical skills and expertise as tools, knowledge as a foundation, and gratitude as their baggage.

In that spirit, the youth of the National Border Committee are ready to strive and excel to successfully complete all assigned political tasks, worthily inheriting the cause of protecting the border and territory, and serving the development goals of the country in the new era.
