According to the Russian Federal Prison Service (FSIN), the incident occurred on October 2nd on the Vladikavkaz-Adler train, which was transporting prisoners under the escort of FSIN officers.

As the train approached Murtazovo station, a prisoner being taken to the restroom suddenly attacked an escorting officer and stole his gun. The prisoner then fired multiple shots at the escorting officers.

Other security guards opened fire and neutralized the attacker.

FSIN confirmed that one escort officer was killed in the attack, while three others were injured. The TASS news agency, citing a law enforcement source, reported that one of the three injured was in critical condition, and the other two sustained moderate injuries. No civilians were injured in the incident.

FSIN said it would provide support to the families of the deceased officer and the injured personnel.

According to law enforcement sources, the prisoner who carried out the attack had previously been convicted of serious crimes under the Russian Criminal Code.

FSIN also denied reports of riots on board the ship.

Following the incident, police, investigators, and forensic experts were deployed to the scene to determine the cause and circumstances of the attack. FSIN also conducted an internal investigation.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case with charges related to the misappropriation of weapons, the use of violence to obstruct the operation of a detention facility, and conspiracy to murder law enforcement officers.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria is overseeing the investigation. FSIN stated that the situation at the scene is now completely under control.
