Mr. Trump may be accompanied by his wife, Melania, on this trip.

Diplomatic sources said the trip was expected to last two days, sometime in mid-November. Trump would attend meetings between ASEAN and its partners, followed by a bilateral meeting with President Marcos.

However, the White House and the Philippine government have not officially confirmed the US President's attendance.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs said it is preparing necessary options should the visit take place, but the final schedule still depends on a decision from Washington.

The 49th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will be held in Manila from November 16 to 18.

The Philippine authorities decided to give workers in the capital region three days off to reduce congestion and ensure security for the event.

President Marcos has formally invited Mr. Trump to attend the conference during his visit to Washington in July 2025.

This year's event coincides with the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States, and the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty.

In July, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Trump wanted to attend the summit in Manila, but could not commit at the time because the President's schedule was not yet finalized.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez later stated that Manila was still awaiting official confirmation from the White House.

If it goes ahead, this would be Trump's second visit to the Philippines as US President. He previously visited Manila for the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit in 2017.
