The theme of this strategic exercise is the use of military force clusters to repel hostile actions along the Central Asian strategic axis and ensure military security in the Caspian Sea region.
This exercise was conducted in parallel with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Interaction-2026 command and staff exercise.
The exercise involved more than 47,000 Russian servicemen. Seven foreign countries sent forces to participate, along with observers from 51 countries.
In addition, more than 6,000 servicemen from Russia and other countries, along with units of the CSTO's Collective Rapid Reaction Force, have been deployed at the Chebarkul training ground.

According to information released about the event, the exercise aimed to enhance the practical skills of the command and staff of the units in managing and commanding force groups.
"I am confident that the results of the Center-2026 and Interaction-2026 exercises, together with the experience gained by our servicemen, will enhance our effectiveness in responding to external threats to the security of our countries," Putin said during the inspection tour.
He emphasized that experience from the "special military operation" is being applied in the Center-2026 military exercise. "Special military operation" is the term Russia uses for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine .
"All tasks within the framework of the Center-2026 exercise are carried out based on experience gained from special military operations," the Russian President said.
The Kremlin leader also added that new weapons and equipment are being used in the exercise.
Following the inspection tour, Putin had a brief meeting with foreign military attachés attending the Center-2026 exercises and held talks with the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Alexey Tesler.
As part of the exercise, a live-fire drill targeting maritime objectives was conducted by the Caspian Fleet of the Russian Navy.
"Within the framework of the Center-2026 strategic command and staff exercise, the crew of the missile ship Tatarstan and the combat crew of the Bal coastal missile system conducted live-fire exercises against targets at sea," the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
According to the exercise scenario, a simulated enemy force attempted to seize a section of coastline and launch an attack.
"To achieve this objective, an enemy landing task force launched a troop landing operation, while a naval task force of three ships provided fire support with naval artillery," the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
According to the ministry, the large targets mounted on the ships are used as sea targets to simulate hypothetical enemy attack vessels.
