Accordingly, on October 2nd, Tri An Hydropower Company adjusted the flood discharge rate through the spillway from 423 m3/s to 610 m3/s.
On October 3rd, the operating unit of the Tri An hydroelectric reservoir announced two more increases in flood discharge. At 1 PM on October 3rd, the discharge rate will be increased to 726 m3/s; at 3 PM on the same day, it will be further adjusted to 915 m3/s. This is the largest flood discharge through the Tri An hydroelectric spillway since the beginning of 2026.
With the adjusted flood discharge through the spillway, the total water flow downstream of the Dong Nai River could reach 1,715 m3/s, depending on the national dispatching method.
The Tri An Hydropower Company stated that, depending on weather conditions, water inflow into the reservoir, reservoir water level, and downstream water level of the Dong Nai River, the company can flexibly regulate the water flow through the spillway.
The Civil Defense Command of Tri An Hydropower Company hereby informs the Civil Defense Committees at all levels and relevant local government agencies to direct, coordinate, and inform the people in the downstream areas of the reservoir to proactively take preventive measures to avoid potential impacts.
According to observations by Tri An Hydropower Company, at 8:00 AM on October 3rd, the water level in Tri An reservoir reached 61.68 m, while the design elevation was 62 m; the water inflow into the reservoir reached 2,030 m3/s.
The Tri An hydroelectric reservoir has a capacity of over 2.7 billion cubic meters of water, making it the largest reservoir in the southern provinces and cities. Besides its main function of generating electricity for the national grid, the Tri An reservoir also ensures water supply for domestic use and agriculture , prevents saltwater intrusion, and regulates floods in the downstream Dong Nai River.
