On the morning of October 3rd, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team won the gold medal in the women's four-person final against Thailand at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium (Japan) at the 2026 Asian Games. This was a rematch between the two teams after coach Tran Thi Vui's team had previously defeated their opponent 2-0 in the group stage.
Vietnam fielded a starting lineup consisting of Nguyen Thi My, Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Nguyen Thi Yen, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen. Ngoc Yen continued to play a crucial role in both attack and serving.
Coach Tran Thi Vui's players started confidently, winning the first set 15-11 thanks to their effective attacking play. In the second set, Vietnam staged an impressive comeback, rising from a 8-13 deficit to 14-13, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity to close out the match, allowing Thailand to win 17-15 and level the score at 1-1.
In the deciding set, Thailand started well and led 3-0, but Vietnam quickly regained control. The two teams fiercely contested the game before a solid block and effective finishing shots helped Vietnam create a lead in the second half. The Vietnamese girls held on, winning 15-11, thus securing a 2-1 overall victory.
This is Vietnam's second gold medal in sepak takraw at this year's Games, following Thu Trang and Khánh Ly's victory in the women's doubles. This achievement also brings Vietnam's total gold medal tally at the Games to three.
Three years ago at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou ( China ), Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Nguyen Thi My, Nguyen Thi Yen, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen were also key members of the team that won the gold medal.
