According to the report on the socio-economic situation in September and the first nine months of 2026, prepared by the Ministry of Finance for the regular Government press conference held on October 3rd, Vietnam's agricultural production has continued to be maintained, ensuring national food supply and security.
As of September 20, 2026, the whole country had harvested 1,819.5 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice (equivalent to 99.6% of the same period last year); and planted 1,337.1 thousand hectares of autumn rice.
Livestock farming has also developed steadily in recent times. Specifically, the output of live pig meat for slaughter in the past nine months is estimated at 4,279.9 thousand tons (an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period last year); poultry meat reached 2,023.3 thousand tons (an increase of 5.3%).
Also during the past nine months, the total timber production nationwide is estimated at 18,901.0 thousand m³ (an increase of 5.3%); the total aquatic product output is estimated at 7,890.9 thousand tons (an increase of 3.9%), of which aquaculture production reached 4,860.6 thousand tons (an increase of 5.9%), and fishing production reached 3,030.3 thousand tons, an increase of 0.95%.
Speaking to the press, a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also stated that the GDP growth rate for the entire sector in the third quarter of 2026 is estimated at 4.1-4.2%; agricultural, forestry, and fisheries production continues to maintain positive growth momentum.
Specifically, agricultural, forestry, and fisheries exports in the past nine months are estimated at 56.3 billion USD (an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period last year); the trade surplus in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries was 16.9 billion USD (an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period last year).
Regarding key tasks for the fourth quarter, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment stated that the sector will strive to achieve the development goals and targets assigned by the Government in 2026, with a GDP growth rate of 4.0% and agricultural, forestry, and fisheries export turnover reaching 74 billion USD or more.
To achieve the above results, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has determined that the performance of tasks will be used as the basis for evaluating the responsibility of the heads of departments.
