
On October 2nd, a delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar, led by Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc, paid a courtesy visit and held a working meeting with the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, Aung Naing Thu.
Also attending the meeting were: Head of the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in Myanmar Dinh Quy Manh, Commercial Counselor Ngo Xuan Ty, and other embassy staff; ministers of the Yangon regional government and the Mayor of Yangon city of Myanmar.
During the meeting, Yangon Chief Minister Aung Naing Thu reviewed the history of the traditional friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar, especially after the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1975.
Chief Minister Aung Naing Thu expressed his honor to be part of the high-level Myanmar delegation led by President Min Aung Hlaing on an official visit to Vietnam in early September 2026; he also expressed his deep impression and shared fond memories of his trip to Hanoi to attend the ASEAN Cities Leaders' Meeting in June 2026.

Chief Minister Aung Naing Thu highly appreciated the investment projects of Vietnamese businesses in Myanmar, mostly in the Yangon region, across various sectors such as agriculture , livestock, industry, transportation, hotels, tourism, and services. He affirmed that the Yangon regional government always pays attention to and ensures maximum security and safety for businesses and the Vietnamese community living and working in the area.
Chief Minister Aung Naing Thu expressed great interest in green transformation in urban transport and shared the need for cooperation and development of electric buses to gradually upgrade Yangon's public transport system.
For his part, Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc stated that Vietnam and Myanmar are close neighbors with many similarities in history and culture. The traditional friendship, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and General Aung San, has been continuously nurtured and developed by successive generations of leaders and people of both countries, and upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2017.
Highlighting the positive results of the recent visit to Vietnam by the President of Myanmar, Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc stated that the visit has brought Vietnam-Myanmar relations to a new stage and created momentum to further promote the comprehensive partnership between the two countries in the future.
Regarding local cooperation between the two countries, Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc emphasized that Yangon holds special significance in the overall long-standing traditional friendship between the two nations. During his visit to Myanmar in February 1958, President Ho Chi Minh visited Yangon City Hall and was awarded an honorary doctorate in law by Yangon University. Yangon and Ho Chi Minh City established a sister city relationship in 2012 and have had many practical collaborations in the fields of trade and tourism .
On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc respectfully conveyed the invitation from the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City to the leaders of Yangon City to attend the Autumn Economic Forum in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of October 2026; and at the same time requested the Yangon regional government to support and facilitate the Embassy in successfully organizing the Vietnam-Myanmar Trade Fair 2026 in early December.
Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar will cooperate closely with the Yangon Regional Government, acting as a bridge to promote cooperation between Yangon and Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other provinces and cities of Vietnam, and support Yangon in connecting and cooperating with Vietnamese partners to implement Yangon's green transport projects.

Agreeing with Ambassador Nguyen Anh Duc's proposals, Yangon Chief Minister Aung Naing Thu expressed admiration for Vietnam's outstanding economic development achievements; and also expressed his desire to visit soon and expand substantive cooperation between Yangon and many localities in Vietnam.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the Yangon regional government will continue to stand alongside and support Vietnamese businesses, creating favorable conditions for cooperation between the two sides in the future.
The Chief Minister is very much looking forward to the opportunity to cooperate with Vietnamese partners in green transport projects, affirming his readiness to welcome and support new Vietnamese investment projects in Yangon, including in the fields of telecommunications and energy-gas.
The meeting took place in a sincere, open, and mutually trusting atmosphere, opening up many prospects for future cooperation between the Yangon Region and its Vietnamese partners.
