The city currently has 20 specialized firefighting teams with 517 members. These teams possess a total of 30 fire trucks, 2 tanker trucks, and 4 pumps as equipment for firefighting operations. Established at specialized facilities with high fire and explosion risks, such as Van Don International Airport; thermal power plants, cement factories, warehouses, oil and gas ports, and industrial zones, these teams not only ensure fire safety within their managed areas but also directly participate in handling fire and explosion incidents when called upon, acting as an "extension" of the city's Fire and Rescue Police.
Established in 2019 with 30 members, the specialized firefighting team of Thang Long Thermal Power Joint Stock Company now has 25 members. Many of these members have received thorough training, and the team possesses numerous specialized vehicles and equipment for firefighting and rescue operations. Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Head of the Safety and Environment Department (Thang Long Thermal Power Joint Stock Company), stated: "Thermal power plants are identified as having a very high risk of fire and explosion. Therefore, the company pays close attention to fire prevention and control. The company has a firefighting system using water, gas, foam, and automatic fire suppression; and it also focuses on developing plans for purchasing, repairing, maintaining, and training the specialized firefighting team and the facility's firefighting team..."
Meanwhile, at the Dong Mai Industrial Park, to enhance the effectiveness of the specialized firefighting force, the Dong Mai Industrial Park Management and Operation Enterprise has invested in fire trucks, installed a water supply system, and other firefighting equipment. In particular, with guidance from the Fire Prevention and Control Police ( Quang Ninh Provincial Police), the industrial park's specialized firefighting force regularly practices and perfects the techniques for handling fires as soon as they break out.
Mr. Hoang Thanh Hung, Deputy Team Leader of the specialized firefighting team in Dong Mai Industrial Park, said: "We are trained in how to handle the nozzle, lay the hose, and spray water to ensure our own safety and extinguish fires most effectively. When we receive an emergency report of a fire or explosion from a business or nearby locality, the specialized firefighting force immediately organizes and fights the fire from the very beginning."
Given the increasing demands of practical realities, improving the operational capacity, professional skills, and coordination abilities of specialized firefighting forces in the city is becoming an increasingly important task, contributing to minimizing damage to people and property when incidents occur.
In reality, fires can occur in many types of facilities with different characteristics, from residential areas, mixed-use buildings (houses and businesses) to markets, warehouses, production facilities, and high-rise buildings. Under these conditions, specialized firefighting forces with the ability to quickly access the fire area within their jurisdiction, determine the fire's spread, organize rescue efforts, deploy teams, and effectively utilize firefighting equipment are crucial factors in handling such incidents.
Similar to professional firefighters, members of specialized fire brigades must adhere to strict professional regulations. Inspections and self-inspections of personnel and equipment are carried out rigorously. Specialized fire brigades regularly receive training to improve their professional skills and ability to handle fire, explosion, and rescue situations. This contributes to effective prevention and response in the early stages of fire and explosion incidents, ensuring the safety of lives and property for individuals, organizations, and units.
