The announcement on October 2nd stated that the pilots conducted reconnaissance, moved to the designated area, and carried out precision bombing raids on life-sized simulated targets using OFAB-250ShN bombs.

The flight crews also practiced combat maneuvers and evasive tactics against simulated enemy fighter jets and air defense systems.

In total, the military conducted approximately 50 combat training flights. More than 15 aircraft and over 100 personnel from the Baltic Fleet participated in this training exercise.

On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a live-fire exercise targeting maritime objectives had been conducted by the Caspian Fleet as part of the Center-2026 exercise.

"The crews on the missile boat Tatarstan and the operators of the Bal coastal missile system conducted live-fire exercises against targets at sea," the ministry said.

President Vladimir Putin announced that the Center-2026 exercise is being conducted according to the training plan of the Russian Armed Forces, with the participation of more than 47,000 servicemen, performing tasks at 11 training grounds and in the Caspian Sea.

The President also noted that this exercise is linked to the ongoing Interaction-2026 command and staff exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The exercises took place a few days after Russia warned the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that it was ready to use nuclear weapons if the Western alliance attempted to cut off Kaliningrad – a breakaway Russian territory bordering the Baltic Sea.

In a document sent to NATO, which Reuters obtained, Moscow accused the alliance of following "a dangerous and reckless path," posing a "high risk of direct armed conflict."

This document refers to the possibility of "Russian attacks targeting decision-making centers in alliance member states from the very beginning."

"Russia will be ready to use its entire arsenal and capabilities, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory if NATO countries take any steps to isolate Kaliningrad from the rest of the country," the document stated.

This warning highlights Moscow's concern about what it sees as a growing threat from NATO to Kaliningrad.
