Just over a week after the iPhone 18 Pro officially went on sale, some users have begun complaining about problems with Apple's latest smartphone .

Notably, the speakers on some devices are said to produce "clicking," "popping," "popping," or other unpleasant crackling sounds in certain situations.

As is often the case with unexplained hardware or software glitches, affected users quickly converge on Reddit to share their experiences and find out if the problem is widespread.

One user reported that their new iPhone 18 Pro Max started making short "clicking" or "popping" sounds from the speaker shortly after the setup process was complete.

The sound could be coming from either the upper or lower speakers, although the poster hasn't pinpointed the exact source.

This person described the sound as sounding almost like "someone just unplugged the aux cable from the device."

Notably, this phenomenon didn't just happen once. According to this user, the sound appeared multiple times while switching between applications, adjusting the volume, and possibly even when using the voice dictation feature.

However, the frequency of the error seems to have decreased over time. This person stated that the phenomenon had ceased to occur in the hours before posting.

Subsequently, users reported that when playing music at high volume, the speakers also produced a "buzzing" or unclear sound.

Numerous users have confirmed experiencing a similar phenomenon.

The issue is noteworthy because of the number of users who have confirmed experiencing similar phenomena.

At the time this article was written, there were 29 direct, unedited comments that were not moderator comments.

Of these, at least 21 people reported having experienced one or more of the aforementioned sound-related problems.

Some cases suggest the bug may be software-related and has been resolved after an iOS update.

One user reported that the clicking sound only appeared during phone calls and completely disappeared after updating to iOS 27.0.1.

Another user reported that going into the phone's settings and changing the sound mode from "Voice Isolation" to "Standard" significantly reduced the static noise.

These responses suggest that the cause may not be exactly the same across all iPhone 18 Pro models.

Some cases may be related to audio processing or software, while the source of others remains unclear.

However, there have also been more serious reports. One user, in the comments section, stated that they heard random "clicking" or "smacking" sounds almost every time they interacted with the screen.

Sometimes, the sound even appears when the user taps the screen to wake up the iPhone.

Numerous complaints have appeared on MacRumors.

Similar reports aren't limited to Reddit. The MacRumors forum also notes numerous iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users describing unusual audio phenomena.

Descriptions include a "clicking" sound, intermittent "popping" noises, a very faint "snap" coming from the earpiece speaker, and an unpleasant shift in the high-frequency range compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

It's noteworthy that quite a few independent users have confirmed experiencing a similar phenomenon.

This makes it difficult to simply dismiss the problem as a user error or something that occurred only on a single faulty device.

However, it should be noted that the feedback on online forums does not yet determine the actual percentage of iPhone 18 Pro units experiencing problems.

Those who experience problems tend to be more proactive in sharing their experiences online than those using the device normally. Therefore, the number of comments cannot be considered representative of all iPhone 18 Pro users.

Apple has not yet issued a public statement regarding the crackling, buzzing, or popping sounds coming from the speakers on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

If the problem stems from the software, Apple could easily address it through a future iOS update.

Users can check for the latest software version by going to Settings > General > Software Update, and then following the instructions to install the latest iOS version.
