On October 6th, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province held a meeting to appraise the general planning of Duc Trong commune until 2050.
An area of approximately 8,200 hectares spanning three communes—Duc Trong, Tan Hoi, and Ninh Gia—is being considered by Lam Dong province as the new administrative and political center of the province. Duc Trong will play a core role, connected to Lien Khuong Airport.
According to the plan, Duc Trong covers nearly 14,900 hectares. By 2030, the commune will essentially meet the criteria of a type III urban area, aiming towards becoming a provincial-level administrative urban area. By 2050, it will develop towards a type II urban area.
Duc Trong has been designated as the core urban area and southern development hub of the province, as well as a land reserve for establishing a new administrative and political center. Of the approximately 8,200 hectares allocated for this center, about 2,800 hectares belong to Duc Trong. The central core itself covers approximately 300 hectares.
Beyond its administrative functions, Duc Trong is also being developed into an airport city, a logistics hub, and a high-tech industrial center, connecting southern Lam Dong with the Southeast and South Central regions of Vietnam.
The main connecting routes include National Highway 20, National Highway 27, National Highway 28B, the Dau Giay - Lien Khuong Expressway, and the Lien Khuong - Prenn route. Lien Khuong International Airport is planned to be upgraded to level 4E, along with the Duc Trong Inland Container Depot (ICD).
Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, requested clarification on land use targets, especially regarding their alignment with the provincial targets. Solutions for flood control must also be clearly defined. The scale of major roads needs to be recalculated. High-voltage power lines must be reviewed by the electricity sector, and relocation plans must be considered.
Mr. Hai paid particular attention to rice paddy land and forest land. The rice paddy land allocation must take into account the needs for national key transportation infrastructure and areas planned for development. The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province must clarify whether the forest land managed by the commune overlaps with national defense land.
The Duc Trong administrative center will be the development core of the region.
The development model for the new administrative center is defined as "one core in Duc Trong - two symbiotic wings in Tan Hoi and Ninh Gia". The core will focus on administration, commerce, and services. The southern area will be developed into an airport city and logistics hub. The Phu Hoi area will be dedicated to rural ecology and clean industries.
The population of Duc Trong in 2025 is estimated at around 88,800 people, projected to reach approximately 98,000 in 2030 and over 160,500 in 2050. The plan includes land allocation for social housing, worker housing, resettlement, schools, and medical facilities.
