The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in 2026, marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Chile (1971-2026). Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and the first Latin American country to sign a free trade agreement with Vietnam.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong congratulated Minister Pérez Mackenna on the positive results of his official visit to Vietnam in August 2026, and affirmed that the Embassy would actively cooperate to build upon those results.

With complementary economic structures and both being members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), both sides agreed that there is still much room to expand trade and investment. By 2025, bilateral trade is expected to reach over US$2.1 billion, an increase of 39%, making Chile Vietnam's third largest trading partner in Latin America.
