Pham Hoang Thu Uyen shared that she remembered Camille Schrier, who was crowned Miss Virginia in 2019. Schrier had a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Systems Biology at the time. In the talent competition, instead of singing, dancing, or playing a musical instrument, she performed a chemistry experiment on stage.
The image of a beauty queen bringing her passion to the competition caught Pham Hoang Thu Uyen's attention. "There's no need to become a different role model; just bring your knowledge, personality, and beliefs," said the Vietnamese representative.
According to the beauty queen, that experience made her realize that the beauty pageant stage can be a place where a girl can show her true self, instead of just fulfilling the familiar expectations of a beauty queen.
Before gaining recognition through beauty pageants, Pham Hoang Thu Uyen was a Top 16 finalist in Miss Universe Vietnam 2022, and later won 2nd Runner-up in Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024. Last July, she was announced as the contestant representing Vietnam at Miss Earth 2026.
The 9X beauty from Hai Phong also faced the expectations and prejudices that come with the title of Miss. Looking back on her journey, Pham Hoang Thu Uyen said: "I have the right to be proud of why I started, what I have strived for, and what I want to prove."
For Pham Hoang Thu Uyen, the title of beauty queen is therefore not just about a crown or the result of a competition. More importantly, each beauty queen understands who she wants to become and what she wants to achieve afterward.

In her new series of photos, Pham Hoang Thu Uyen chose to tell her personal story instead of focusing on her titles. She talks about the moment that changed her perspective on the term "beauty queen"—from a title with many stereotypes to a journey where each person can choose to express their own unique mark.
Pham Hoang Thu Uyen graduated with a degree in Business Administration and currently works in the healthcare and beauty industry. She was a top student at the city level, received scholarships from universities in France, the United States, and South Korea, and was a delegate at the 2021 Global Vietnamese Youth Intellectual Forum.
