Industry - the main driver of growth

Engineers are installing equipment for line 3 at Nghi Son Steel Rolling Mill No. 2 - a project preparing for trial operation in Q4/2026.

At the construction site of Line 3 of the Nghi Son No. 2 Steel Rolling Mill, hundreds of engineers, experts, and workers are urgently installing equipment, striving to put the line into trial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026. Mr. Chu Van Tung, the project's construction manager, said: “Currently, we maintain about 400-500 personnel during the peak installation phase, aiming for trial operation on schedule to supply finished steel products to the market from the beginning of 2027. With a designed capacity of 1.6 million tons of rolled steel per year, a total investment of 4,787 billion VND, and the application of DANIELI technology from Italy, when operational, this line will significantly add production capacity to Thanh Hoa's steel industry."

According to the plan for implementing the growth scenario in the last six months of the year, Thanh Hoa aims to bring 30 production and business projects with a total investment of VND 39,764 billion into operation according to the monthly schedule. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, most projects expected to be completed in the third quarter have already started operations; those projects that are behind schedule are continuing to receive focused support to resolve difficulties. At the same time, the department is coordinating with the Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Board and the province's industrial parks, as well as local authorities, to closely monitor projects scheduled to begin operations in the coming months.

Businesses are ramping up production, and the pace of operations is accelerating. At SAB Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd., in anticipation of the year-end peak production season, the company has developed a plan, optimized shift schedules and equipment efficiency through lean manufacturing management; proactively secured raw materials, maintained safe inventory levels, and enhanced skills training for local technical workers. “The company is focusing on improving average productivity per worker, maximizing equipment capacity, and proactively managing the supply chain, thereby ensuring timely delivery to global customers and achieving the year's production and business targets,” said Mr. Cui Gang, Production Director of SAB Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd.

In the first nine months of 2026, Thanh Hoa's industrial production index grew by more than 11% compared to the same period last year. Eighteen out of 19 key industrial products saw increased output; some products experienced particularly high growth, such as: various types of iron and steel (up 23.5%), various types of fertilizers (up 17.5%), electricity production (up 15.6%), sports shoes (up 14.1%), ready-made clothing (up 9.7%), cement (up 8.7%), and motor gasoline (up 6.3%). While this is a commendable achievement, many challenges remain, as the target for the last six months of the year is for the industrial sector to grow by at least 22.18%, striving for 23.79%; and for the manufacturing sector specifically, to grow by at least 24.2%, striving for 25.98%.

According to representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade, along with activating new driving forces, the key task in the remaining months of the year is to maximize the capacity of existing factories. The industry will continue to closely monitor the production situation of cement, steel, electricity, garment, footwear, fertilizer, animal feed, and other key industrial products to promptly address difficulties and strive to complete and exceed assigned production targets. In particular, the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant will continue to play a leading role, aiming to maintain an average operating capacity of approximately 110% in the last six months of the year, achieving a production output of about 4.6 million tons and contributing approximately 10,000 billion VND to the state budget. In addition, 19 key industrial products are required to meet minimum production targets, striving to exceed the 2026 plan; the progress of new production projects will also continue to be closely monitored to promptly address any arising issues.
