In the process of modernizing agriculture, China is promoting the application of digital technology, Beidou satellite positioning, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and automation to improve production efficiency, resource utilization, and management of large-scale farming areas.

Heilongjiang, one of China's major food-producing regions, is promoting this model based on its advantages in arable land area, mechanization levels, and concentrated production.

Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporter in China, Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Song Li, said that the province has built a province-wide smart platform for agricultural machinery, allowing for the monitoring, coordination, and mobilization of machinery between regions. When a region has a high demand for machinery during harvest time, the system can coordinate equipment from other regions, thereby improving machinery utilization efficiency and reducing waiting times.

Heilongjiang has also built a province-wide smart plant protection system to enhance the ability to monitor and control pests and diseases on a large scale.

In addition, the province is implementing several smart farms and unmanned farms, including the "5G unmanned farm" model at That Tinh Farm in Kien Tam Giang.

Here, machines can automatically leave the warehouse, perform tasks according to a set schedule, and return to the warehouse, gradually reducing reliance on direct human control.

According to Ms. Tung Le, one of Heilongjiang's key experiences is integrating data into production management. Sensors and connected systems collect data on machinery, field conditions, and farming processes, then upload it to a digital platform for monitoring, analysis, and decision-making support.

This approach helps improve the management of large-scale production areas while reducing reliance on management methods that are primarily based on experience.

Based on the experience in Heilongjiang, technology companies are playing an increasingly prominent role in the digitalization of agriculture.

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporter in China, Huida Technology Company's Deputy General Manager, Chu Haiba, stated that the company currently develops seven product groups with more than 20 types of equipment serving all stages from cultivation and planting to harvesting, based on IoT, AI, and Beidou positioning technology.

Some products focus on precision manufacturing. Autonomous driving systems assist machinery in moving along predetermined routes, serving purposes such as tilling, sowing seeds, and caring for crops.

According to the Heilongjiang Daily, the HD408 system can assist in sowing seeds and creating furrows with centimeter-level accuracy, while also recording parameters such as working depth and machine speed.

In Ning'an City, the smart irrigation system adjusts water and fertilizer application based on soil moisture and crop characteristics. According to Ms. Su Haiba, the company's integrated irrigation and fertilization system can reduce labor requirements by about 80%, save more than 30% of water, and contribute to a 5-10% increase in productivity, depending on production conditions.

Huida also develops "autonomous farming" solutions, focusing on upgrading existing agricultural machinery rather than simply replacing it with new equipment.

According to Ms. Sở Hải Ba, the company collaborates with management agencies and local authorities to survey actual needs, test, and refine the product.

According to Heilongjiang authorities, Huida invested approximately 160 million yuan (about $24 million) in research and development over the past three years, equivalent to 28.5% of its total revenue during the same period.

Some of the company's products have been exported to more than 50 countries and territories.

Heilongjiang is currently promoting the "AI + agriculture" model, focusing on developing intelligent machinery and systems that sense, analyze, predict, and make decisions based on data from space, the air, and the ground.

Local practices show that combining technology with production needs, utilizing and upgrading existing machinery, increasing investment in research, and building a technical service system are being used as solutions to bring digital agriculture from pilot models into large-scale production.
