Officially taking one day off for Vietnam Culture Day 2026.

On October 2, 2026, the Government Office issued Official Letter No. 10065/VPCP-KGVX regarding the plan for holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) in 2026 and 2027. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra agreed with the Ministry of Interior's proposal on the plan for the Vietnamese Culture Day holiday in 2026.

According to the official plan, Vietnam Culture Day in 2026 will be a one-day holiday on Tuesday, November 24, 2026. There will be no swapping of Monday, November 23, to Saturday, November 28.

Thus, the schedule for the week is determined as follows:

Day Rank Work/Holiday Schedule
November 21, 2026 Saturday Weekly rest for units that have Saturdays off.
November 22, 2026 Sunday Weekly break
November 23, 2026 Monday Normal work
November 24, 2026 Tuesday Vietnamese Culture Day Holiday
November 25, 2026 Wednesday Normal work
November 28, 2026 Saturday Not a compensatory workday due to no swap.

It's worth noting that November 23rd is still a normal working day. Therefore, those who work Monday to Friday will not have the four-day holiday from November 21st to 24th as previously proposed.

Do employees receive full pay for taking time off on Vietnamese Culture Day?

Have.

According to Resolution No. 28/2026/QH16 of the National Assembly on the development of Vietnamese culture, November 24th every year is Vietnamese Culture Day; employees are entitled to a day off with full pay . The resolution takes effect from July 1st, 2026.

Therefore, 2026 will be the first year that workers will have a paid day off on Vietnamese Culture Day, November 24th.

Since November 24, 2026 falls on a Tuesday, there will be no compensatory leave required due to it coinciding with a weekly day off.

Why is a four-day consecutive holiday no longer an option?

Before the official holiday schedule was decided, the Ministry of Interior had developed a plan to swap working days so that officials and civil servants could have 4 consecutive days off.

According to this plan, Monday, November 23rd, will be swapped with Saturday, November 28th. The holiday could then last from Saturday, November 21st, to Tuesday, November 24th, a total of four days, with a compensatory workday on November 28th.

However, after considering feedback and reviewing the situation, the Ministry of Interior adjusted the proposal to only allow the holiday on November 24th and not swap working days.

This option was subsequently approved by the Deputy Prime Minister in Official Letter No. 10065/VPCP-KGVX dated October 2, 2026. Therefore, the information about a four-day consecutive holiday is no longer the applicable option.

What is the significance of Vietnam Culture Day on November 24th?

November 24th each year is designated as Vietnam Culture Day , aiming to enhance the people's ability to enjoy culture, encourage creative cultural and artistic activities, and promote the practice of a cultured and civilized lifestyle.

November 24th also marks the opening of the First National Cultural Conference on November 24, 1946, in Hanoi .

The Prime Minister previously issued Decision No. 1111/QD-TTg dated June 19, 2026, on the Plan for organizing "Vietnamese Culture Day" for the period 2026-2030.

Finalizing the holiday schedule for Vietnamese Culture Day in 2026.
