The event aims to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on the "500-day campaign to intensify the search, collection, and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers."
At the same time, the event served to propagate and educate cadres, soldiers, and the people about the principle of "Drinking water, remembering the source," the patriotic tradition of the nation; and the profound concern and gratitude of the Party, State, army, departments, political and social organizations, and the people towards the heroic martyrs who bravely fought and sacrificed for the cause of national independence and freedom.
The search for the remains of fallen soldiers at Le Thi Rieng Park began on June 23rd as part of the 500-day campaign. This area, formerly the Do Thanh Cemetery, has been identified as being related to the burial of officers and soldiers who died during the Tet Offensive and Uprising of 1968.
As of October 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Command had collected 718 sets of remains of fallen soldiers at Le Thi Rieng Park. Of these, 685 sets of remains were collected individually, and 33 sets were found in 8 mass graves.
