According to data recently released by the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ), the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2026 increased by 0.62% compared to the previous month. The main reason is the upward adjustment of domestic gasoline and diesel prices in line with world fuel prices.

Meanwhile, compared to December 2025, the CPI in September 2026 increased by 4.2%, and compared to the same period last year, the increase was 5.08%.

Notably, with the relatively high CPI increase in September 2026, the average CPI for the first nine months has increased by 4.52%, equivalent to the annual target (4.5%). Thus, the inflation control target for this year is under considerable pressure, especially given the general trend of higher market prices in the final months of the year.

Speaking at the regular government meeting in September 2026, Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan also emphasized this point. According to the Minister, there are still many challenges in managing the macroeconomic situation in the remaining months of the year.
