According to a report published on October 2nd by the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Monitoring Agency, the summer of 2026 will be the third hottest in European history and the hottest ever recorded in Western Europe.

Of the 10 most severe heatwaves ever to occur on the continent, four took place this summer. However, the August 2003 heatwave still ranks first in terms of severity.

Approximately 52% of Europe recorded perceived temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, while 80% experienced perceived temperatures above 32 degrees Celsius.

Representatives from Copernicus stated that the highlight of this summer is the simultaneous occurrence of numerous climate records across a wide area.
