Male gorillas typically begin to develop a silvery coat on their backs and legs around the age of 12 or 13. Individuals with this characteristic are called "silverbacks." Silverback gorillas often serve as leaders of the troop.

Bakari, a 21-year-old male Western lowland gorilla, underwent his first health checkup since joining Disney's Animal Kingdom ( the world's largest wildlife theme park, located within the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida, USA).

Bakari arrived at Disney's Animal Kingdom in July. He is now gradually adapting to his role as leader of a new troop, taking over from Gino, a silverback gorilla who led the family for nearly 30 years.

Images released by Disney Parks show Bakari being transported to the veterinary facility under anesthesia and undergoing examinations by the medical team. A medical staff member is also captured holding Bakari's hand as he lies unconscious during the examination. Netizens exclaimed, "No matter how big, strong, or a leader someone is, they all become small and vulnerable when it's time for a health checkup."

This inspection took place as Bakari was adjusting to her new environment and her role as the leader of the gorilla troop. Along with Bakari's arrival, Disney is also expanding its efforts to support the conservation of wild gorillas.

The Disney Conservation Fund has decided to award new grants totaling $100,000 to three organizations dedicated to gorilla conservation. This money will be used for gorilla conservation efforts in Africa, including scientific research, veterinary support, and habitat protection.
