At the 19th Asian Games, Bac Thi Khiem was the only combat athlete to win a bronze medal for the Vietnamese taekwondo team. Therefore, she is expected to continue her success at the 20th Asian Games.

On the morning of October 3rd, Bac Thi Khiem competed in the women's over 67kg weight category. The Vietnamese athlete advanced through the first round with a 2-0 victory over Nazym Makhmutova (Kazakhstan). In the quarterfinals, Bac Thi Khiem lost 0-2 to Svetlana Saidova (Uzbekistan), thus ending her participation in the 20th Asian Games without winning a medal.

This is a disappointing result for the Vietnamese taekwondo team because Bac Thi Khiem was expected to achieve the best results in the sparring categories.

At the 19th Asian Games, the Vietnamese taekwondo team won 3 bronze medals. At the 20th Asian Games, the team currently has 1 silver medal in the virtual reality (Viral) event, which was included in the competition for the first time.

According to experts, the true value of taekwondo achievements still needs to be determined through actual sparring competitions, but currently, there are no medals won by martial artists in this discipline.

The last time the Vietnamese taekwondo team won a gold medal at the Asian Games was in 1998. At that time, martial artist Ho Nhat Thong won the gold medal in the men's 54kg weight category.

Meanwhile, the last time a Vietnamese taekwondo athlete reached the final of a single event at the Asian Games was in 2010. At that time, Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu won a silver medal in the women's 53kg weight category.
