On October 2nd, Yemeni government and Houthi sources confirmed fierce fighting between the two sides in an area near a vital shipping lane for global energy supplies, resulting in at least 80 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Government sources said fighting with Houthi forces in the southwestern Yemeni city of Taiz claimed the lives of 26 soldiers in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, Houthi military sources said at least 55 of their members were killed.

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in the Middle East and North Africa, a spokesperson for the Saudi Arabian General Directorate of Civil Defense said that at least one person was injured after debris from a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces in Yemen towards Saudi Arabia was intercepted and fell in the Ahad Rafidah area, Asir province, southwestern Saudi Arabia.

The incident occurred on the night of October 2nd. An Asian resident was injured, while a prayer room in the building and several vehicles were damaged by falling missile debris. Houthi forces frequently attack Ahad Rafidah with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Earlier on October 2nd, Saudi Arabia's air defense system intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched toward the city of Khamis Mushayt, also in Asir province.

Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the coalition supporting the legitimate government in Yemen, said one missile was intercepted at around 3 a.m., after two other missiles targeting the same area were neutralized. Four Houthi drones were also intercepted.

On the same day, the Saudi Arabian Civil Defense Agency announced that a Houthi-launched attack object had landed on a school in Najran, causing material damage but fortunately no casualties.

Meanwhile, Yemeni armed forces said they conducted 474 airstrikes and precision strikes targeting Houthi positions, movements, reinforcements, and military capabilities over the past 24 hours.

Yemeni forces claimed the operation killed 1,540 Houthi members, mostly in Taiz, and destroyed or neutralized 216 military vehicles and equipment.

On the same day, October 2nd, the Houthi movement stated that Saudi Arabian forces had carried out 94 airstrikes targeting areas under their control in the past 24 hours.

According to the Houthi, since fighting resumed, the Saudi Arabian military has conducted a total of 1,350 attacks targeting positions and territories controlled by the group in Yemen.

Houthi forces currently control much of northern Yemen, including many densely populated areas. Increased attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and shipping lanes in the Red Sea are raising concerns about regional security, the safety of energy infrastructure, and the transportation of oil through these strategic sea routes.

Amidst the Yemeni government's ongoing economic and security challenges, Saudi Arabia recently disbursed over 224 million riyal (approximately $60 million) to support the government's budget.

The funding aims to strengthen the regular financial flow of the Yemeni government, improve the effectiveness of fiscal policy management, thereby supporting people's purchasing power and contributing to economic stability.

The assistance was provided at the request of the Yemeni government and under the direction of Saudi Arabian leaders. The new disbursement was implemented through Saudi Arabia's Yemen Development and Reconstruction Program.
