KNDS Group announced that the French Army has received a total of 25 Jaguar R3 or Jaguar R2 vehicles upgraded to the R3 standard. The delivery of new vehicles and the modernization of existing ones to the latest standard will continue until the end of 2026.
In France, the Jaguar R3 reconnaissance armored vehicle has been certified for operational use, and by July 20, 2026, the French Ministry of Defence will officially authorize its combat deployment.
The French army conducted 18 tests at its main training ground in Bourges and 49 other tests in Angers, recording results that met expectations.
The Jaguar R3 fully incorporates the technical and operational capabilities expected of this 25-ton 6x6 armored vehicle, and is envisioned to replace the AMX-10RC wheeled tank in reconnaissance and close-combat missions.
The Jaguar's digitized T40 turret, designed and manufactured by KNDS, incorporates a high-velocity 40mm cannon and Akeron MP anti-tank missiles.
The Akero MP missile allows for hitting targets at both close and long ranges – up to 4,000 meters.
The expanded combat power, provided by a new generation of sensors and weapons, along with the ability to redirect missiles to other targets while in flight, represents a technological advancement that meets the current needs of the French Armed Forces.
The interactive interface between the operator and the machines has also been improved, moving towards a more fully digital environment.
This allows for the integration and display of information from sensors, fire control systems, and other equipment on the vehicle in a more intuitive format, thereby helping the crew make quick decisions.
In September 2020, the French Ministry of Defence ordered 42 Jaguar armored vehicles. In total, the French Army expects to receive 300 Jaguars by 2030.
