On October 1st, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile, Nguyen Viet Cuong, met and worked with the Chilean Foreign Minister, Francisco Pérez Mackenna.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the contents of bilateral relations and emphasized the significance of the occasion marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1971-2026).

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong expressed his pleasure at the positive development of relations between the two countries, especially after the official visit of Minister Pérez Mackenna to Vietnam last August.

Based on the two complementary economies and their participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), both sides believe there is significant potential for expanding cooperation, primarily in trade and investment. By 2025, bilateral trade is projected to exceed US$2.1 billion, a 39% increase.

Both sides agreed to build upon the results of Chilean Foreign Minister Pérez Mackenna's visit to Vietnam and promote substantive cooperation between the two countries. They also agreed to coordinate more closely within joint mechanisms, especially as Vietnam hosts APEC Year 2027.

Affirming that Vietnam values its friendly relations and cooperation with Chile, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong emphasized that Vietnam is ready to be a bridge for Chile to strengthen its ties with ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region, and also supports Chile's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The meeting demonstrated the respect and trust between the two countries, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam-Chile Comprehensive Partnership.
