Science, technology, and digital transformation are becoming crucial pillars, deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and South Korea. This area of cooperation requires businesses in both countries to innovate their thinking, enhance their research and development capabilities, and participate together from the very first stages of product development.
This was the message emphasized by Minister Vu Hai Quan at the meeting with businesses and the Vietnam- Korea Digital Technology Forum 2026 in Seoul.
Collaborate in researching, designing, and developing products.
During a meeting with Minister Vu Hai Quan and Vietnamese Ambassador to South Korea Vu Ho at the Vietnamese Embassy, representatives of digital technology businesses from both countries shared information on investment cooperation, market development, research and development; and also highlighted the advantages and challenges in connecting the technology ecosystems between the two countries.
Vietnamese businesses have expressed their desire to expand cooperation with Korean partners in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductor chip design, data infrastructure, and industrial digital transformation. Along with market expansion, businesses aim to enhance their research and development capabilities to participate more deeply in Korea's high-tech value chain.
Minister Vu Hai Quan suggested that businesses in both countries make a strong shift from purely outsourcing cooperation to co-creation: jointly researching, jointly designing, jointly developing products, and coordinating the implementation of pilot projects to demonstrate feasibility from the outset.
Areas to focus on include digital infrastructure connectivity, artificial intelligence applications, including Physical AI and AI Factories, and semiconductors to optimize production, trade, and service chains.
For Vietnamese businesses, the Minister suggested promoting the development of high-quality "Make in Vietnam" technology products, deeply integrated into South Korea's supply chain. Based on this, businesses from both countries can form joint ventures and expand into international markets.
Ambassador Vu Ho emphasized the role of Vietnamese representative offices in South Korea in promoting the joint commercialization of technology, co-ownership of intellectual property, and access to third markets between businesses of both sides.
Connecting research with business needs.
To promote research and development cooperation, Minister Vu Hai Quan suggested that large enterprises closely coordinate with research institutes and universities in both countries, and establish joint research groups.
Businesses need to proactively commission real-world problems, thereby contributing to the training of highly skilled artificial intelligence engineers and integrated circuit designers. The collaboration between businesses, research institutes, and universities should focus on joint product development and integrating technology into production and business operations.
The Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology will coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to support and resolve difficulties in mechanisms, improve the legal framework, and create favorable conditions for research and development models, testing to demonstrate feasibility, and commercializing technology between businesses of the two countries.
With over 200 delegates in attendance, the Vietnam-Korea Digital Technology Forum 2026 focused on policy exchange, business networking, and the introduction of products and solutions in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cloud computing, data, software, and smart factories.
According to Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence , these are key areas aimed at promoting digital technology cooperation between the two countries.
At the seminar "Vietnam-Korea Digital Technology Alliance: Co-creating AI solutions, integrated circuit design, and developing a high-tech supply chain," delegates discussed research, development, and technology transfer; training of artificial intelligence and semiconductor design personnel; and testing and bringing jointly developed products to the global market.
Visiting booths showcasing artificial intelligence solutions in management and production, digital transformation platforms for businesses, cloud computing, and information security, Minister Vu Hai Quan urged businesses to continue enhancing the competitiveness of their products, strengthen trade connections, and quickly translate ideas and solutions into substantive commercial cooperation contracts.
